The rural fair of Caramanico Terme, in the heart of the Majella National Park
The Ancient San Giovanni Fair brings the historic center of Caramanico Terme to life. As one of the most charming villages in the province of Pescara, it is tucked between Mount Morrone and the Majella within the Majella National Park. The event is a tribute to agriculture, rural roots, and the authentic beauty of this corner of Abruzzo, transforming the village streets and squares for a full day into a nostalgic scene filled with market stalls, local delicacies, and folk traditions.
The heart of the fair is the parade of farmers with vintage tractors, which travels through the main streets of the village, accompanied by farm animals like sheep and cows that both adults and children can meet up close. The event also features traditional moments, such as the blessing of the animals on the church steps, and areas dedicated to ancient crafts.
Throughout the day, stalls featuring handicrafts and local Abruzzo products are set up. Visitors can participate in educational workshops on the short supply chain, discover traditional wool processing, and try their hand at making pizzelle abruzzesi. The gastronomic offerings highlight the region's excellence: from Caciomorra to local cheeses, and from artisanal honey to local street food.
Admission is completely free. The fair, organized by the CARA Association which brings together local merchants, is part of the rich summer calendar of Caramanico Terme and represents an ideal opportunity to discover the spa village of the Majella, its traditions, and its flavors in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.
