Mandorlato, tripe and Venetian tradition on the Asiago Plateau
The Ancient Franca Fair of Santa Caterina is held in the hamlet of the same name in Lusiana Conco, a municipality on the Asiago Plateau in the province of Vicenza. The event has its roots in the ancient traditions of the Venetian Republic and in the celebrations linked to the Doges, when 'fiere franche' (free fairs) enjoyed customs exemptions.
Also known as the Festival of Mandorlato and Tripe, the fair celebrates two symbolic products: mandorlato, a traditional sweet made from almonds, honey, and sugar sold at the stalls, and tripe, a rustic dish prepared according to a traditional recipe and served at the food stand along with minestrone soup, hot sandwiches, hot chocolate, and roasted chestnuts.
Along the village streets, stalls offer mountain pasture cheeses, cured meats, honey, grappa, ancient fruit varieties, and local crafts, ideal for purchases in view of the holidays. Live music and entertainment accompany the weekend, organized by the Pro Loco with the Municipality of Lusiana Conco.
The 2026 edition of the Ancient Franca Fair of Santa Caterina is expected at the end of November in the hamlet of Lusiana Conco, on the Asiago Plateau, with the usual Festival of Mandorlato and Tripe.
