The historic livestock and goods fair of the Lower Aosta Valley
The Ancient and Great Fair of Pont-Saint-Martin is one of the oldest commercial events in the Aosta Valley: its origins date back to the 17th century, making it one of the most deeply rooted traditional events in the region. It takes place in the municipality of Pont-Saint-Martin, in the Lower Aosta Valley, at the entrance to the Lys Valley.
The fair maintains its historical dual nature. The historic center and squares host stalls selling various goods, from crafts to local products; the cemetery area, on the other hand, is dedicated to the market for livestock and the exhibition of agricultural machinery. The event typically takes place in the morning, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
More than just a market, the Ancient and Great Fair is the main annual event for merchants and breeders from the Lower Aosta Valley, the nearby Canavese region, and the Lys Valley. An occasion for economic, but also social and cultural exchange, which for centuries has connected the communities of a border area between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont.
Participating in the fair means immersing yourself in an authentic atmosphere where the agricultural and commercial tradition of the Lower Aosta Valley is still alive. An ideal event to discover Pont-Saint-Martin, its products, and its connection with the surrounding territory.
The 2026 edition of the Ancient and Great Fair takes place in Pont-Saint-Martin on Saturday, May 16, according to the tradition of the third Saturday of the month. The fair maintains its historic structure: various goods in the historic center and squares, livestock and agricultural machinery in the cemetery area.
The typical hours are from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event remains the main annual gathering for merchants and breeders from the Lower Aosta Valley, Canavese, and the Lys Valley.

Pont-Saint-Martin is the first town in the Aosta Valley when arriving from Piedmont: it has an highway exit (A5) and a train station on the Aosta-Turin line. The fair takes place in the historic center and squares; the livestock sector is in the cemetery area.
