The first biennial in South Tyrol dedicated to analog photography
The ANALOGUE Photo.Festival, subtitled Analog Photography Biennial, is the first event in South Tyrol entirely dedicated to film photography and analog techniques. The inaugural edition is held in Brunico (Bruneck), in the heart of the Puster Valley, and extends to a network of venues across the province of Bolzano, from the Badia Valley to the Venosta Valley and the provincial capital. The festival was born in the year celebrating two hundred years of photography to bring the slow, artisanal, and conscious gesture of the analog image back to the center stage.
The guiding thread of the biennial is "Beyond the Instant": photography not as a frozen moment, but as a process. In contrast to immediate digital production, the festival values time, anticipation, and the materiality of film, the darkroom, and alternative printing. The program moves between artistic practice, theoretical reflection, and exchange among enthusiasts.
Fifteen local and international artists bring the event to life. At the heart of the program, the ECK Museum of Art in Brunico hosts two major solo exhibitions: Evoluzione Analogica by Renato D'Agostin and Animal Absurdity by Roger Ballen. Alongside them are names such as Sissa Micheli, Pip Marschalk, Carlotta Valente, Oliver Kofler, Caroline Renzler, Fabian Haspinger, Riccardo Coelati Rama, Irene Steger, and Kurt Stauder.
The festival venues are called "Chambres", in reference to the darkroom (camera oscura), and are distributed across a dozen locations in South Tyrol. Key locations include:
In addition to the exhibitions, the festival offers a rich calendar of activities: workshops on large format, darkroom, wet collodion, and alternative printing (with partners like JOBO), photowalks in the Dolomite landscape, artist talks, guided tours, open labs, repair cafés, and analog markets. The opening takes place on June 3rd at Wörtz Bäck in Brunico, while the closing event "Lumen by Night" concludes the biennial at LUMEN on the Plan de Corones.
As a biennial, the ANALOGUE Photo.Festival will return every two years: this first 2026 edition lays the foundation for a landmark event for the entire analog scene in South Tyrol, Italy, and internationally.
The biennial opened on June 3, 2026, with the inauguration at Wörtz Bäck in Brunico and concluded on June 14 with the evening event "Lumen by Night" at LUMEN on the Plan de Corones. The ECK Museum of Art in Brunico hosted the two main exhibitions: Evoluzione Analogica by Renato D'Agostin and Animal Absurdity by Roger Ballen.
Brunico can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (Bressanone exit) and then along the SS49 Puster Valley road. By train, the Brunico station is served by the Puster Valley line (Fortezza–San Candido). The distributed venues in the province can be reached using South Tyrol's public transport (Südtirol Pass).
