Advent in the heart of the Puster Valley, among wooden huts, handicrafts, and the scent of mulled wine
The Christkindlmarkt Bruneck, or Brunico Christmas Market, is one of the most evocative Advent events in South Tyrol. It takes place in the heart of the historic center of Brunico (Bruneck), the main town of the Puster Valley and the tourism hub for the Plan de Corones area in the province of Bolzano. Every year, from late November until Epiphany, the streets of the center transform into a Christmas village warmed by candlelight, the scent of white fir, and the cozy, genuine atmosphere typical of the Puster mountains.
The market is spread across three areas of the historic center: Via Bastioni (Graben), Piazza Paul Tschurtschenthaler, and the Ragen di Sopra (Oberragen) area. The traditional wooden huts offer high-quality South Tyrolean handicrafts: wood carvings, ceramics, fine crystals, creative jewelry, handmade wool products, tree decorations, and wooden toys. There is no shortage of typical Puster Valley gastronomy, including spiced mulled wine, Tirtlan (stuffed fritters), Krapflan, Tschotteblattlan, and sauerkraut, all served on reusable tableware.
The Brunico Christmas Market has been awarded the Green Event certification by the South Tyrol Eco-Institute: a recognition that rewards the organizers' commitment to offering an environmentally friendly Advent, from waste management to the use of reusable tableware. Making the experience even more unique is the exclusive Christmas fragrance created in collaboration with the Bergila company from Falzes, which blends mountain nature essences with the Christmas atmosphere.
The market's calendar is packed with events tied to South Tyrolean traditions. Among the most anticipated moments are the St. Nicholas procession, which parades on December 6th starting from the Marian column in Ragen di Sopra, the living nativity scene, and the daily opening of the Advent calendar windows. On weekends, there are programs dedicated to children, while during the week, the streets of the center come alive with roving concerts, Christmas choirs, and local musical groups.
Visiting the market is also a great opportunity to discover Brunico, one of the most beautiful villages in South Tyrol, dominated by its episcopal castle and surrounded by the Puster Dolomites. The town is the gateway to the Plan de Corones ski area and is easily accessible, with ample parking available near the historic center.
The Brunico Christmas Market returns from November 27, 2026, to January 6, 2027. The wooden huts are open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM (December 24, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM; closed December 25). The three historic areas of the market — Via Bastioni, Piazza Paul Tschurtschenthaler, and Ragen di Sopra — are confirmed, featuring South Tyrolean crafts, Christmas decorations, typical gastronomy, and the exclusive Christmas fragrance by Bergila.
For 2026, the market also maintains its Green Event certification for a sustainable Advent.
