About AltAcustica

Nestled among the high-altitude beech forests and sweeping vistas of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park, AltAcustica - Mountain Music brings acoustic concerts to breathtaking locations every August: the Le Vedute viewpoint on Monte Autore, the Holy Trinity church in Monte Livata, and the meadows of Campo dell'Osso. Organized by the Centro Musica Subiaco, this free-admission festival invites you to enjoy classical, ethnic, and film score music immersed in nature, over 1,400 meters above sea level.

A festival where music communes with the mountains

AltAcustica - Mountain Music is a summer festival that has been enlivening the Monte Livata plateau above Subiaco, in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park, since 2015. The festival's concept, captured by the motto "an adventure between music and nature," is both simple and powerful: to bring acoustic instruments—violin, harp, flute, accordion, brass, as well as didgeridoo and handpan—into places of great scenic and spiritual value, where the sound dialogues with the forest, the wind, and the silence of the high peaks.

Concert Venues

The unique charm of AltAcustica lies in its locations, reachable via meadows and beech forests at an altitude of over 1,400 meters:

  • Le Vedute on Monte Autore, at Campo dell'Osso: a natural terrace overlooking the Simbruini valleys, which has hosted ethnic music concerts within the beech woods;
  • The Holy Trinity church in Monte Livata, an intimate setting for classical music programs;
  • Le Genziane and other scenic spots on the plateau, selected each year.

Typical Program: Three August Appointments

In recent editions, the festival has featured three free-admission concerts, typically held on Saturdays in August, often in the morning (11:00 AM) to enjoy the mountain light and cool air, or at sunset. The repertoire naturally ranges from ethnic music (didgeridoo and handpan) to classical music—pieces by Vivaldi, Bach, and Mozart for violin and harp—and even great cinema soundtracks performed by brass ensembles. In the 2025 edition, the eleventh, performers included Genesio Antonello with his "Handoo" project and Gli Ottoni del Lazio.

The 2026 Edition

The official calendar of the Simbruini Mountains Park, as part of the "Simbruini: The Green Heart of Lazio" program, confirms the twelfth edition of AltAcustica, with an inaugural date set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Subiaco. The full program, which based on past editions is expected to include multiple events throughout the month, has not yet been released: the final poster will be published by the Centro Musica Subiaco in the coming weeks.

Organizers

The festival is promoted by the Centro Musica Subiaco APS, a local music school, with the patronage of the Municipality of Subiaco, the Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park, and the Lazio Region, with the support of local entities such as Banca Centro Lazio, La Mieleria nel Bosco, AVIS Subiaco, and the Gruppo Orientisti Subiaco.

Subiaco and the Simbruini Mountains

Subiaco, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome, is famous for the Benedictine monasteries of Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastica and serves as one of the gateways to the Simbruini Mountains, known as "Rome's mountain." Monte Livata, its high-altitude resort, is a summer destination for hikers and families: AltAcustica enhances its landscape by transforming meadows and woods into open-air concert halls, offering a perfect opportunity to combine a day in the mountains with the discovery of Lazio's artistic and natural heritage.
