The traveling gathering of the 'Black Feathers' through the villages of the Langhe
The Alpini in Langa Gathering is an annual event that, with each edition, selects a different municipality in the Langhe area to unite the Alpini Groups belonging to the ANA Cuneo Section. It is a deeply felt appointment for local communities, capable of transforming the squares and alleys of small villages for a day into a meeting place between generations, where Alpine tradition intertwines with the rural and farming identity of one of Piedmont's most famous areas.
In 2026, the baton passed to Barbaresco, a small municipality in the Province of Cuneo known worldwide for the wine that bears its name, overlooking the UNESCO heritage hills. The sixteenth edition of the gathering brought together 'Black Feathers' from various municipalities of the Langhe and Roero: among the protagonists were the Alpini Groups of Monteu Roero and Montaldo Roero, welcomed by the municipal administration and the host Alpini Group.
The heart of the day is the parade through the village streets, with the groups' banners, marching bands, and labari (standard-bearers) crossing the historic center. There is no shortage of honors to the Fallen, with the laying of a wreath and a moment of reflection in front of the monument, as well as official ceremonies with speeches by civil and association authorities. The convivial part, with the Alpine lunch and sharing among participants, traditionally closes the event.
More than just a festival, the Alpini in Langa Gathering is an opportunity to keep alive the traditions and the spirit of service of the Alpini corps, deeply rooted in the communities of the Granda. The traveling format, which involves a different municipality each year, strengthens the bond between the Langhe towns and celebrates values such as memory, solidarity, and brotherhood. For those visiting the Langhe hills, attending the gathering means experiencing an authentic page of Piedmontese culture firsthand.
The 16th Alpini in Langa Gathering brought the Alpini Groups of the ANA Cuneo Section to Barbaresco for a day of celebration and memory. The village, famous for its wine, welcomed the 'Black Feathers' from various municipalities in the area.
Among the protagonists, a large and proud representation of the Alpini Group of Monteu Roero, accompanied by the municipal administration, and the Alpini Group of Montaldo Roero. The official invitation had been extended to neighboring municipalities by the mayor of Barbaresco, Mario Zoppi.
The day was structured around the traditional moments of the gathering: the parade through the village streets, the honors to the Fallen, and the convivial moments, in the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, and memory that animate the National Alpini Association.
The detailed program with times was released through the channels of the ANA Cuneo Section and the participating Alpini Groups.
Barbaresco can be reached by car from Alba (about 10 minutes) along the SP3; the nearest motorway exits are Asti Est (A21) or Marene (A6). The reference railway station is Alba, connected to Turin, from where you can continue by bus or car.
The gathering traditionally takes place on a day in late May. The 2026 edition was held on Sunday, May 24th.
During the parade, some streets in the historic center may be closed to traffic: it is advisable to park in areas outside the village. The event takes place outdoors, so comfortable clothing is recommended. For updated information on future editions and the host municipality, you can refer to the ANA Cuneo Section.
