Sport, memory, and solidarity in the heart of the Gesso Valley
In the mountain village of Entracque, nestled at the foot of the Maritime Alps Park in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont), the Piazza del Mercato transforms once a year into a vast open-air sports village. This is the setting for the ALOBA Race, a charity event that successfully combines two things that rarely go together so well: the joy of a village festival and a concrete commitment to a vital cause.
ALOBA was founded in 2018 by three young people from the Gesso Valley—Luca Ghiglione, Andrea Baretto, and Rachele Fanesi—all deeply connected to the world of cross-country skiing and biathlon. The event is dedicated to the memory of Alessandro Biarese, a long-time coach of the Sci Club Alpi Marittime, and holds deep emotional significance for the entire Entracque community. Over the years, the event has grown into a highly anticipated date, attracting families, athletes, and curious visitors from across the province.
The heart of the day is the obstacle course, a challenge filled with skill tests, mud, and laughter, designed for those who want to test themselves without taking things too seriously. Alongside the main race, there is the ALOBA Sport Village, a space dedicated to children and teenagers featuring various sports, games, and a custom-tailored obstacle course. The sporting action then gives way to the festivities, with the Aperi ALOBA happy hour, an indoor polenta party, a charity raffle, and an evening of music with the Disco ALOBA.
What makes the ALOBA Race special is its charitable spirit: all proceeds from registrations and evening activities are donated to the LILT (Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer), Cuneo branch. In just a few editions, the event has donated over 30,000 euros, funding tangible projects for the Oncology department of the Santa Croce e Carle Hospital in Cuneo, including vital sign monitors, a public address system, digital tools to improve communication between patients and medical staff, and school prevention programs.
Participating in the ALOBA Race means spending a day of sport and fun in Entracque while turning your enthusiasm into real support for those facing illness.
The 2026 edition of the ALOBA Race brought the historic center of Entracque to life on Saturday, April 18, transforming the Piazza del Mercato into a large open-air Sport Village. The formula combining fun, sports, and solidarity was confirmed, with all proceeds donated to the LILT (Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer) of Cuneo.
The ALOBA Race takes place in Entracque (CN), in Piazza del Mercato and Piazza del Comune, in the historic town center of the Gesso Valley.
The registration fee is 12 euros per person and includes participation in the activities, the polenta party, and a raffle ticket. To register, please contact the organizers.
