The festival celebrating the signature fruit of San Michele Salentino
The Almond-Stuffed Fig and Local Products Festival is the highlight of the summer in San Michele Salentino, a town in the upper Salento area of the Brindisi province, in Apulia. Every late August, the event draws visitors from across the province and beyond, turning the town center into a grand celebration of flavors, music, and rural tradition. The undisputed star is the almond-stuffed fig, a delicacy made by sun-drying figs and filling them with toasted almonds, often scented with lemon zest, cinnamon, or bay leaves.
The almond-stuffed fig of San Michele Salentino is a recognized Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) and represents the agricultural soul of this corner of Apulia, where fig and almond groves have shaped the landscape for centuries. The festival was created to showcase this excellence and, with it, the entire local food and wine heritage: dairy products, cured meats, olive oil, preserves, and traditional Salento sweets.
The festival evenings blend tastings with entertainment: from sunset concerts in Borgo Aijeni to major live shows in Piazza Marconi, the event brings together world music, Salento pizzica, and nationally renowned artists. Alongside the stage, a selection of the best sweet Apulian wines offers pairings designed to enhance the sweetness of the almond-stuffed fig.
Organized by the Municipality of San Michele Salentino with the involvement of local associations and businesses, the festival is now a well-established tradition, having reached over twenty editions. More than just a village feast, the Almond-Stuffed Fig Festival has become a benchmark for food and wine tourism in the province of Brindisi and an opportunity to discover the authentic identity of upper Salento.
The 2026 edition of the Almond-Stuffed Fig and Local Products Festival marks the twenty-fourth edition of the festival dedicated to the signature product of San Michele Salentino, in the province of Brindisi. The event is part of the "2026 Salento Festival" summer program promoted by the municipal administration, which enlivens Piazza Marconi and Borgo Aijeni from July to September.
As per tradition, the festival will combine food stalls, tastings of almond-stuffed figs and local products, pomological exhibitions, and live music evenings. The detailed calendar with times, artists, and the wine event will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event: it is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality for updates.
