About Almond Festival

Every year, on the third weekend of June, the historic center of Prizziโ€”an ancient village in the Sicani Mountains in the province of Palermoโ€”hosts the Almond and Folklore Festival. Organized by the Pro Loco Hippana, the event celebrates local almonds and the rural identity of the area through folk music concerts, traditional costume parades, and tastings of almond-based pastries. A day that weaves together taste, memory, and Sicilian culture amidst the town's medieval streets.

A festival in the heart of the Sicani Mountains

The Almond and Folklore Festival takes place in Prizzi, a charming village perched on the Sicani Mountains in the province of Palermo, in the heart of inland Sicily. The town, whose origins date back to the ancient Elymian-Sican settlement of Hippana, still retains its medieval appearance, with narrow, winding streets climbing around the ruins of the ancient castle. It is in this setting that, every year on the third weekend of June, one of the most cherished events for the local community comes to life.

The almond, the star of the territory

The event was created to showcase one of the signature products of the Prizzi countryside: the almond. The fertile lands surrounding the town, rich in pure water, have made Prizzi a land of cereals, legumes, dairy products, and almonds. During the festival, the streets of the historic center are filled with stalls dedicated to almond pastries: cookies, traditional sweets, and specialties prepared according to ancient recipes passed down from generation to generation.

Folklore, music, and tradition

Alongside the gastronomic theme, the festival showcases Sicilian folklore. The program traditionally includes folk music concerts, parades of traditional clothing and costumes, and entertainment that brings the customs and habits of rural Sicily back to life. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Hippana Prizzi, which manages visitor hospitality and daily entertainment, with activities generally starting in the late afternoon, around 5:00 PM.

An opportunity to discover Prizzi

The festival is also an excellent opportunity to visit the village and its surroundings. Prizzi is, in fact, also known for another famous tradition, the Easter Ballo dei Diavoli (Dance of the Devils), and is included in the "Borghi dei Tesori" circuit. Those who reach the Municipality of Prizzi during the festival can combine the discovery of local gastronomy with that of the historical and landscape heritage of the Sicani Mountains, in one of the most authentic and lesser-known areas of Sicily.

Almond Festival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Almond and Folklore Festival is scheduled in Prizzi for the third weekend of June, following the calendar of previous years. The exact date and detailed program have not yet been officially published by the Pro Loco Hippana, but almond pastry tastings, folk concerts, and traditional costume parades in the historic center of the Sicani village are confirmed.

The 2026 Almond and Folklore Festival returns to Prizzi, in the Sicani Mountains in the province of Palermo, on the third weekend of June. The event follows the proven formula: tastings of almond sweets and pastries, folk music concerts, and traditional costume parades through the streets of the historic center, with activities starting in the afternoon. The detailed program and final schedule will be announced by the Pro Loco Hippana Prizzi closer to the event.
