The oldest fair in the Salento region, blending tradition, craftsmanship, and pork delicacies

The All Saints' Fair and Pork Festival is one of the most ancient and fascinating events in the Salento area. In Carpignano Salentino, a small town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Puglia, popular tradition dates the fair's origins back to the year 1000, when agricultural trade was linked to the cult of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Physician Saints. Originally, the fair was held in the ancient hamlet of Carbieno, near the church of San Cosimo, along the Via Traiana that connected Salento to Brindisi.
Today, every year around November 1st, the fair expands across most of the town, becoming a true showcase of local excellence. While maintaining its agricultural roots, it has grown over time to celebrate not only farming traditions but also the craftsmanship, gastronomy, and culture of Salento.
The beating heart of the event is the 'Via te mienzu', the main street (Via Roma) that bisects the town. For the occasion, it hosts over 450 exhibitors: artisans, agricultural producers, and small local businesses showcase the best of "Made in Salento," including traditional products, ceramics, textiles, handicrafts, and food and wine specialties.
One of the most characteristic highlights is the ancient livestock market, held at the sports field. Here, the pantomime of the sensali (traditional brokers) comes to life, as expert mediators finalize cattle deals with ritual gestures and handshakes. The event also features a traditional parade of horses and carts, along with a large market that enlivens the town center.
An integral part of the fair is the Pork Festival, a highly anticipated gastronomic section that celebrates authentic Salento cuisine. Tastings include traditional pork-based dishes, accompanied by cicureddhe (wild chicory), local wines, and Salento pastries, all set in a festive atmosphere filled with folk music and dancing in the square.
Supported by the Province of Lecce, the Puglia Region, and the Chamber of Commerce, the All Saints' Fair attracts thousands of visitors from across Salento every year. During the event, it is also possible to visit the underground oil mills and the medieval church of Santa Cristina, testaments to the long history of Carpignano Salentino.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: the fair is traditionally held around November 1st, the feast of All Saints.
