Albertone's cinema returns home

Every summer, the garden of the Alberto Sordi House Museum—the historic villa on Via Claudio Marcello where the actor lived from 1958 until his passing in 2003—transforms into an open-air cinema. The Alberto's Great Cinema festival, promoted by the Alberto Sordi Museum Foundation in collaboration with the Alberto Sordi Foundation for Youth, brings the films of the most beloved interpreter of Italian comedy back to the place he held dearest, in the heart of Rome, just steps from the Baths of Caracalla.

Twelve evenings under the stars

The program features a selection of masterpieces spanning Sordi's long career as an actor and director, working with great masters of 20th-century Italian cinema such as Steno, Dino Risi, Antonio Pietrangeli, Franco Rossi, and Gian Luigi Polidoro. Screenings take place every evening at 9:00 PM in the villa's garden; in case of rain, films are moved to the Villa's Theater, the private screening room where Sordi himself used to preview his films before their theatrical release.

A tribute curated by Luca Verdone

The artistic direction is entrusted to director Luca Verdone, who builds a thematic journey edition after edition through the characters, vices, and archetypes made immortal by Sordi: the moralist, the wheeler-dealer, the bourgeois, and the average Italian with all his flaws and humanity. Each evening thus becomes an opportunity to revisit, with both affection and a critical eye, a fundamental piece of our country's social and cinematic history.

A special evening in the heart of Rome

Admission is completely free, but seating is limited and booking via email is mandatory—a detail that makes the experience of watching an 'Albertone' film while sitting in the very garden where the actor used to stroll even more exclusive. The festival has become a staple of the Roman summer, bringing together the general public, cinema enthusiasts, and the many visitors who rediscover the figure of one of the absolute symbols of Rome and the Lazio region every year.

Located in the Municipality of Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Alberto Sordi's villa is now a house museum that preserves the furniture, memories, and testimonies of the actor's life. The summer festival is an integral part of the Foundation's mission: to keep Sordi's memory alive and promote Italian cinematic culture, with a special focus on young people. A simple and poetic way to rediscover, under the Roman sky, the art of a man who captured the essence of the Italian people like few others.
