An afternoon dedicated to walking, nature, and performing arts on Lake Orta
Agire il Paesaggio is a day dedicated to the connection between performing arts, nature, and the landscape, organized in San Maurizio d'Opaglio, a small town nestled on the western shore of Lake Orta, in the Piedmont region. The event weaves together moments of reflection and outdoor artistic practices, placing the act of walking at the center as a tool for knowledge, connection, and creative expression.
The initiative marks the return of a project originally developed between 2010 and 2012 as part of the Multidisciplinary Residency on Lake Orta titled The Subtle Ecology of Theater, now revived and updated with new collaborations and contributors from the academic and contemporary theater worlds.
The afternoon unfolds across multiple locations, blending indoor and outdoor spaces. Lectures, testimonials, and performances come to life at the Teatro degli Scalpellini, in the adjacent woods, and in the garden of the B&B Melizio, where the day concludes. The alternation between academic talks, treks through natural spaces, and outdoor artistic practices makes Agire il Paesaggio an immersive experience where the audience does not just watch, but walks, listens, and participates.
The gathering brings together artists, scholars, and cultural professionals. Key participants include Franco Acquaviva of Teatro delle Selve, Francesca Aurilio and Isacco Caraccio of Teatro Selvatico, Andrea Del Duca of the Ecomuseo del lago d'Orta e Mottarone, Roberta Gandolfi of the University of Parma, Michele Losi of Campsirago Residenza, Erica Meucci of O.R.A. Orobie Residenza Artistica, Emanuele Regi of the University of Bologna, and Lorenza Zambon of Casa degli Alfieri. The event is curated by Franco Acquaviva, Roberta Gandolfi, and Emanuele Regi, with organizational direction by Teatro delle Selve.
Agire il Paesaggio is part of the Girolago 20+ project, promoted by the Ecomuseo del lago d'Orta e Mottarone and supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo. The event highlights the commitment of Teatro delle Selve, active for years in San Maurizio d'Opaglio, to turning the Cusio landscape into a space for scenic experimentation and a meeting point between art and the community. The bond with the Lake Orta region and the Province of Novara is an integral part of the event's identity, inviting participants to view nature as a space for thought and creation.
