A parade of allegorical floats and masks in the village of Accorneri
Every winter, the small village of Accorneri, in the municipality of Viarigi (Asti province, Piedmont), transforms into an open-air stage for its Carnival. This event, deeply rooted in the Asti Monferrato community, attracts a large crowd every year, filling the village streets with confetti, colors, and festive spirit.
The heart of the celebration is the parade of allegorical floats, the result of months of hard work and passion from local volunteers. The floats, often pulled by vintage tractors, wind through the village streets amidst imaginative and colorful masks: children show off vibrant costumes, while adults contribute with creative designs that bring the whole day to life. It is this spectacular tradition of allegorical floats that makes this Carnival a highly anticipated event throughout the region.
The meeting point is set for the afternoon at Piazza della Cantina Sociale: from here, the procession of masks and floats begins, winding through the village streets until it reaches the Church Square, where the party continues with games, music, and entertainment for all ages.
To wrap up the day, there is no shortage of traditional treats: the essential bugie (typical deep-fried Carnival fritters), assorted sweets, and hot chocolate offered to all attendees. In past editions, mulled wine has also been served to warm up the crowd in the sports area near the church.
The Accorneri Carnival is organized by the local group Gli Amìs di Curnè, a vibrant expression of the village's identity, which meticulously manages the construction of the floats and the entire festival program. It is a genuine event that captures the community spirit of the small villages in the Monferrato and Asti province.
