The wandering festival through hermitages, villages, towers, and bell towers stops in the medieval hamlet of Roccacaramanico
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Accendiamo il Medioevo is a traveling cultural festival promoted by the Pescaratutela Cultural Association and directed by Licio Di Biase, dedicated to enhancing the medieval heritage of the Pescara province. Born in 2019, the festival does not take place in a single location but is "wandering": throughout the year, it crosses numerous municipalities in the Pescara area, leading visitors to discover often little-known hermitages, villages, towers, and bell towers. The formula weaves together cultural outreach, slow tourism, and the promotion of small towns, moving beyond the summer concentration of events.
Among the most evocative destinations of the traveling calendar is Roccacaramanico, a tiny hamlet in the Municipality of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, in the Province of Pescara. Situated at over 1000 meters above sea level in the heart of the Maiella National Park, the stone village is an authentic medieval settlement, depopulated and then reborn thanks to the commitment of the Roccacaramanico Association, which has preserved its history and landscape for over a decade. It was here that the festival took its first steps in 2019, returning several times over the years: Roccacaramanico was indeed the site of the inaugural edition.
The festival's formula provides for a weekend full of appointments, designed for an audience curious and attentive to cultural heritage:
With Accendiamo il Medioevo, the Pescaratutela Association pursues the goal of making the historical heritage of the involved municipalities more accessible and recognizable, distributing initiatives throughout the year to de-seasonalize the cultural offer. The Roccacaramanico stop, in the Municipality of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella and in the heart of the Maiella National Park, represents one of the most identifying appointments of this itinerary that invites residents and visitors to rediscover the medieval soul of Abruzzo.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Accendiamo il Medioevo in Roccacaramanico have not yet been announced. In previous years, the stop in the village of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella took place in July, as part of the traveling calendar that crosses the municipalities of the Province of Pescara. As soon as the Pescaratutela Association releases the new dates and program details, this page will be updated.
Roccacaramanico is a hamlet of the Municipality of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, in the Province of Pescara, within the Maiella National Park. By car, it can be reached from the A25 motorway (Bussi-Popoli or Torre de' Passeri exit), continuing along mountain roads towards the plateau. The village is located at over 1000 meters above sea level: the road is scenic but winding; it is advisable to allow plenty of time.
Guided tours and the convivial lunch are by reservation. The cost of the lunch is approximately between 30 and 50 euros. Cultural events and shows are generally free entry until capacity is reached. For information and reservations, it is advisable to contact the organizers through the Pescaratutela Association ([email protected]).
Comfortable clothing is recommended, as well as a light jacket even in summer given the altitude, and shoes suitable for walking through the village's stone alleys, which are characterized by ups and downs.
