A wandering festival in the heart of the Maiella

Accendiamo il Medioevo is a traveling cultural festival promoted by the Pescaratutela Cultural Association and directed by Licio Di Biase, dedicated to enhancing the medieval heritage of the Pescara province. Born in 2019, the festival does not take place in a single location but is "wandering": throughout the year, it crosses numerous municipalities in the Pescara area, leading visitors to discover often little-known hermitages, villages, towers, and bell towers. The formula weaves together cultural outreach, slow tourism, and the promotion of small towns, moving beyond the summer concentration of events.

The Roccacaramanico stop

Among the most evocative destinations of the traveling calendar is Roccacaramanico, a tiny hamlet in the Municipality of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, in the Province of Pescara. Situated at over 1000 meters above sea level in the heart of the Maiella National Park, the stone village is an authentic medieval settlement, depopulated and then reborn thanks to the commitment of the Roccacaramanico Association, which has preserved its history and landscape for over a decade. It was here that the festival took its first steps in 2019, returning several times over the years: Roccacaramanico was indeed the site of the inaugural edition.

How the day unfolds

The festival's formula provides for a weekend full of appointments, designed for an audience curious and attentive to cultural heritage:

• Cultural event on Saturday afternoon (not present at all stops).
• Guided tour on Sunday morning among the village's cultural assets — alleys, churches, towers, and panoramic views of the Maiella — for those who book.
• Convivial lunch by reservation, an opportunity to discover mountain gastronomy.
• Short live music concert at the end of lunch.
• Theater or musical show in the afternoon.
• Meeting with a special guest, among well-known faces of culture and entertainment.

A cultural project for the territory

With Accendiamo il Medioevo, the Pescaratutela Association pursues the goal of making the historical heritage of the involved municipalities more accessible and recognizable, distributing initiatives throughout the year to de-seasonalize the cultural offer. The Roccacaramanico stop, in the Municipality of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella and in the heart of the Maiella National Park, represents one of the most identifying appointments of this itinerary that invites residents and visitors to rediscover the medieval soul of Abruzzo.
