Summer evening concerts by the Musikkapelle Pfalzen at the Musikpavillon
The Abendkonzert der Musikkapelle Pfalzen is a series of open-air summer concerts by the brass band of Falzes/Pfalzen, a small town in the Puster Valley, Bolzano province, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Throughout the summer, the band enlivens village evenings with free performances at the Musikpavillon in Kirchplatz, the church square, offering residents and tourists a moment of live music in the heart of the Dolomites, at the foot of Plan de Corones (Kronplatz).
The Musikkapelle Pfalzen is one of the town's most deeply rooted associations: it was founded in 1827 by the then-school director Peter Niederwanger, who led it for nearly thirty years. Since then, the band has continuously accompanied the community life of Pfalzen, through religious festivals, civic anniversaries, and musical events. Since 2023, the artistic direction has been entrusted to maestro Matthias Willeit. Like all South Tyrolean Musikkapellen, the ensemble preserves and passes on the heritage of Tyrolean brass band music, a strong identity element of this German-speaking territory.
The evening concerts offer a varied and traditional program: marches, waltzes, polkas, overtures, and pieces of Alpine folk music, often interspersed with more modern tracks. The musicians perform in traditional costumes (Tracht), giving the evenings that authentic character that makes the performances of South Tyrolean bands a unique cultural experience, much loved by visitors.
The Abendkonzert is much more than just a concert: it is a summer ritual that marks the evenings in Pfalzen and brings the community together around its band. For those staying in the Puster Valley, it is the ideal opportunity to discover the musical culture of South Tyrol live, in a small town that has managed to preserve its traditions.
For the summer of 2026, the Musikkapelle Pfalzen confirms two evening concerts at the Musikpavillon in Kirchplatz, in the center of Falzes/Pfalzen:
The evenings feature a varied and traditional repertoire of Tyrolean brass music. Details of the musical program for the individual evenings have not yet been published and are usually released closer to the event. Admission is free.
Falzes/Pfalzen is located in the Puster Valley, a few kilometers from Brunico (Bruneck). By car, it can be reached from the exit of the Puster Valley state road (SS49); by train, the reference station is Brunico, which is then connected by local buses. The Musikpavillon is located in Kirchplatz, in the town center.
The concerts are held in the evening. Admission is free. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled or moved: it is advisable to check with the Musikkapelle Pfalzen ([email protected]) or on the municipal website.
The town is part of the Kronplatz Dolomites region: it is ideal to combine the concert with a day of hiking or exploring the Puster Valley.
