Great international jazz in the Cloister of the Abbey of Propezzano in Morro d'Oro
The Abbazie Summer Festival is one of the most prestigious musical events in Abruzzo, a traveling festival that enlivens the iconic sites of the Teramo province every summer with jazz, classical music, and contemporary fusions. Organized by Luzmek ETS as part of the Concerti delle Abbazie project, the festival unfolds across dozens of events spread throughout Romanesque abbeys, cloisters, historic villages, and panoramic terraces of the Green Hills of Abruzzo.
In the municipality of Morro d'Oro, the festival features one of its most beloved permanent venues: the Cloister of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Propezzano. The Morro d'Oro concert is traditionally entrusted to the "Abbazia Jazz Club" format, which brings some of the most authoritative names in Italian and international jazz to the stage in an intimate and highly charming atmosphere.
The setting for the concert is an authentic hidden treasure of Abruzzo. The Abbey of Santa Maria di Propezzano, of Benedictine origin, stands in the Vomano valley and is linked to the legend of the Marian apparition of May 10, 715. The current church dates back to the 14th century, while the cloister was built in two phases: the lower portico in the early 14th century and the upper loggia in the 16th century. The twenty-seven lunettes of the lower loggia house a cycle of 17th-century frescoes by the Polish master Sebastiano Majewski, dedicated to the Life, Passion, and Death of Christ. Performing among these frescoed stones makes every concert an experience that weaves together music, history, and spirituality.
The festival has grown into a nationally significant event, capable of attracting world-renowned musicians and thousands of spectators. Alongside the major international stars hosted at the various stages of the festival, the concerts at the Abbey of Propezzano showcase the excellence of Italian jazz, featuring original projects and ensembles that engage with both tradition and new trends in the genre.
The Abbazie Summer Festival is more than just music: it is an invitation to discover the historical, artistic, and scenic heritage of the Teramo province. In Morro d'Oro, the concert is accompanied by the charm of the vineyards surrounding the abbey and local wine production, in a union of musical notes, art, and the flavors of Abruzzo. A model of sustainable cultural tourism that restores life and voice to extraordinary monuments, often far from mainstream circuits.
The eleventh edition of the Abbazie Summer Festival arrives in Morro d'Oro on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 9:30 PM, in the evocative Cloister of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Propezzano. The star of the evening is the Paolo Di Sabatino Trio feat. Javier Girotto, a project that has combined Di Sabatino's refined piano playing with the unmistakable saxophone of Argentine musician Javier Girotto since 2001.
On stage: Paolo Di Sabatino on piano, Javier Girotto on sax, Marco Siniscalco on bass, and Glauco Di Sabatino on drums. A quartet of great synergy that brings structured melodies and rich harmonic progressions to the Abbey of Propezzano.
The concert is part of a widespread festival that in 2026 enlivens abbeys, villages, and panoramic terraces of the Teramo province, with over thirty events dedicated to jazz and its fusions.
The Abbey of Santa Maria di Propezzano is located in the Propezzano district, in the municipality of Morro d'Oro (TE).
