The rabbit festival in the village of Bagnoregio, in the heart of the Tuscia Viterbese region
"A Tavola con il Coniglio" is one of the most beloved events of the summer in Bagnoregio, a small town in the province of Viterbo, Lazio, overlooking the valley of the badlands and universally known for the nearby Civita di Bagnoregio, "the dying city." Organized by the Pro Loco Bagnoregio APS, the festival was created to promote a local product and regional cuisine, transforming the historic center into a grand gathering of taste and conviviality for a few days.
At the heart of the festival is rabbit, a cornerstone ingredient of Tuscia's peasant cooking, prepared according to ancient recipes handed down through generations. From the food stands set up by Pro Loco volunteers come dishes that tell the gastronomic history of the village: stewed rabbit, cacciatora style, roasted, and in the numerous variations of the local family tradition. It is an opportunity to rediscover genuine flavors, often linked to the rural civilization that has characterized this corner of Lazio on the border with Umbria for centuries.
The event spans three evenings, featuring the opening of food stands and an entertainment program of live music, orchestras, and dancing in the square that make the atmosphere even more engaging. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense of the term, where residents and visitors gather around the same table, amidst the aromas of cooking and shared joy.
Attending the festival is also a great reason to discover Bagnoregio and its most famous hamlet, Civita, which can only be reached via a long pedestrian bridge and is suspended on a tuff hill shaped by erosion. The municipal territory, nestled among the badlands of the Viterbo Teverina, offers unique panoramas and a historical and landscape heritage that attracts visitors from all over Italy and abroad every year.
"A Tavola con il Coniglio" is part of the rich summer calendar "Bagnoregio, your summer starts here!," which accompanies residents and tourists throughout the season with events, festivals, and shows. A delicious and popular stop that, edition after edition, confirms itself as one of the most appreciated events of the summer in the province of Viterbo.
In 2026, "A Tavola con il Coniglio" celebrates its twelfth edition from July 31st to August 2nd, confirming itself as one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the summer in Bagnoregio, in the province of Viterbo. For three evenings, the stands set up by Pro Loco Bagnoregio APS volunteers will offer local rabbit dishes, accompanied by music and entertainment. The event is part of the summer calendar "Bagnoregio, your summer starts here!"
