The ultimate trail running challenge at the foot of the Stone King, from Saluzzo to the peaks of Monviso
The 100 Miglia del Monviso has become one of the most anticipated events on the Italian long-distance trail running calendar. Organized by the Fondazione Amleto Bertoni under the Terres Monviso banner, the event is based in Saluzzo, a city of art nestled at the foot of the Cottian Alps in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. This is where the start and finish lines for the main race are located, while the routes wind through the Po, Bronda, and Varaita valleys, always with eyes fixed on Monviso, the "Stone King" that dominates the entire landscape.
The 2026 edition offers a range of courses suitable for both seasoned ultra-trailers and those new to mountain running:
The charm of the 100 Miglia del Monviso lies in the places it traverses. The M160K climbs toward Crissolo, reaches the Quintino Sella and Vallanta refuges, crosses the Passo della Losetta, and follows the border trail between Italy and France near Chianale, before returning to the finish line in Saluzzo. Much of the route unfolds within the Monviso Park and the UNESCO MAB area, a recognition that testifies to the naturalistic value of this corner of the Cottian Alps.
The event involves over 18 local municipalities and relies on the hard work of more than 500 volunteers. Beyond the competitive aspect, the organizers promote environmental initiatives, from plogging to solidarity partnerships, making the 100 Miglia del Monviso an event that unites sport, respect for the mountains, and the promotion of the Cuneo valleys. For Saluzzo and the entire Terres Monviso region, this July weekend is a true festival that attracts athletes and enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad.
From July 17 to 19, 2026, Saluzzo returns as the capital of trail running with the new edition of the 100 Miglia del Monviso, organized by the Fondazione Amleto Bertoni. The program includes four distances, revamped routes for the M50K and M20K, and over 500 volunteers supporting the trails in the Cuneo valleys. The M160K remains the most demanding test, with 9,000 meters of elevation gain and a passage along the border trail between Italy and France.
Online registration (Wedosport) closes on Sunday, July 12, 2026; no on-site registration is available on race day.
Night start of the M160K from Piazza Cavour, passage through the Quintino Sella and Vallanta refuges, crossing of the Passo della Losetta, and the Italy-France border trail at Chianale. Revamped routes for M50K and M20K.
Saluzzo can be reached by car from the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene exit) or via the SS589 road. By train, the most convenient station is Saluzzo, connected to Savigliano and the Piedmont regional network. The nearest airport is Turin-Caselle, about an hour's drive away.
Registrations are handled online (via the Wedosport platform) with fees varying based on the registration period. Registration closes on Sunday, July 12, 2026; there is no on-site registration on race day.
