The 1. Mai Konzert der Musikkapelle Kastelbell is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of the village of Castelbello-Ciardes/Kastelbell-Tschars, a municipality in the Vinschgau Valley in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol), in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. On the evening of May 1st, at 8:00 PM, the Musikkapelle Kastelbell gathers in the village Musikpavillon to offer an open-air concert that symbolically marks the beginning of the warmer season and the start of the year's musical activities.

A band with over a century of history

The Musikkapelle Kastelbell is a traditional brass band (Blasmusikkapelle) founded in 1920 on the initiative of David Gstrein. Over more than a century, the band has remained a cornerstone of the community's cultural and social life, accompanying the village's main religious and civil celebrations. The May Day concert is a particularly anticipated moment, where the musicians present the fruits of their winter rehearsals to the public in an informal and festive setting.

South Tyrolean open-air brass music

The repertoire proposed during the evening ranges, as is tradition for South Tyrolean bands, between marches, pieces from the Tyrolean folk tradition, polkas, waltzes, and more modern pages of the brass band scene. The setting in the music pavilion, the heart of the village's outdoor events, allows the audience to listen to the band in a convivial atmosphere, typical of Castelbello's summer evenings.

An event for the whole community

The concert is free of charge and is designed as a meeting point for residents and guests visiting the Kastelbell-Tschars holiday area. It also represents an opportunity to discover the vitality of the musical associations of the Vinschgau Valley and to experience an authentic evening of South Tyrolean tradition in the municipality of Castelbello-Ciardes.
