Two days dedicated to the mushrooms of the Apennines at Passo dei Due Santi
Every summer, the small resort of Zum Zeri, perched on the Passo dei Due Santi at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, becomes a meeting point for mushroom enthusiasts from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The Zum Zeri Mycological Exhibition takes place within the Municipality of Zeri, in the province of Massa-Carrara, at the northernmost edge of Tuscany, where the Lunigiana region borders the Parma valleys.
The beech and fir forests surrounding the pass, where the Verde River rises, have always been among the most generous in the Apennines for mushroom foraging. It is no coincidence that the Zeri area is a destination, especially in season, for thousands of enthusiasts coming not only from Tuscany but also from nearby Liguria, Emilia, and Lombardy. The exhibition was created specifically to highlight this natural wealth and to promote mycological culture while respecting the environment.
The heart of the event is the exhibition of fungal species collected in the local woods, presented and cataloged by experts from the "Carlo Oriani" Mycological Association of Fidenza, named after the association's founding mycologist. Alongside the exhibition, the program includes:
The Zum Zeri Mycological Exhibition is not just an opportunity to admire the variety of local mushrooms, but a complete experience that combines the discovery of the mountain environment, naturalistic knowledge, and the gastronomic tradition of Lunigiana. Guided walks allow visitors to observe mushrooms directly in their habitat, while local restaurants celebrate the star of the festival with dedicated menus. An ideal event for families, hikers, and nature lovers who want to spend a day in the open air in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
The Zum Zeri Mycological Exhibition returns on the weekend of Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Zum Zeri resort at Passo dei Due Santi, in the Municipality of Zeri (province of Massa-Carrara). As every year, the exhibition of fungal species collected in the pass's woods will be curated by experts from the "Carlo Oriani" Mycological Association of Fidenza.
The two days will offer the opportunity to observe the variety of mushrooms of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines up close, with the support of mycologists for species identification, and to participate in nature activities in the surrounding woods.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, guided hikes, and gastronomic initiatives, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. For updates, please refer to the official channels of the Mycological Association and the Zum Zeri resort.

Zum Zeri can be reached by car from the Municipality of Zeri (MS) by driving up toward Passo dei Due Santi. The nearest motorway exit is Pontremoli (A15 Parma-La Spezia), from which you continue toward the Val di Zeri. The location is on the border between the Tuscan Lunigiana and the Parma valleys.
The event is held in summer at the Zum Zeri resort at Passo dei Due Santi.
As this is a mountain location at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, layered clothing and footwear suitable for trails are recommended for those intending to participate in guided hikes. Reservations are recommended for mushroom-based meals at local dining spots.
