The boutique indie music festival in the medieval village of Castelbuono
Ypsigrock Festival takes place in Castelbuono, a medieval village nestled in the Madonie Park, in the province of Palermo, in the heart of Sicily. Founded in 1997, it is universally recognized as Italy's first boutique festival and one of the most respected European events dedicated to independent music, attracting an average of about 3,000 spectators per day. The festival is organized by the Glenn Gould Cultural Association and has received numerous nominations over the years for the European Festival Awards as the best small European festival.
The defining feature of Ypsigrock is the «Ypsi Once» rule: every artist can perform on the festival stage only once in its history. This radical choice forces organizers to constantly scout for new talent, making every edition unique and transforming the lineup into an ever-changing snapshot of the international alternative scene, from post-punk to new electronica, and from contemporary songwriting to indie rock.
Ypsigrock uses the architecture of Castelbuono as a natural stage, distributing concerts across evocative locations in the historic center:
Beyond the music, Ypsigrock is an immersive experience in the landscape and life of Castelbuono: the largely international audience discovers the alleyways, squares, local Madonie gastronomy, and the warm welcome of a small town that, for four days, becomes a European capital of indie music. The event contributes significantly to placing Sicily and the Madonie within European cultural circuits, combining slow tourism, territory discovery, and high-quality music.
The 2026 edition of Ypsigrock Festival is confirmed in Castelbuono (Province of Palermo) from August 6th to 9th, 2026. As every year, the festival enlivens the stages scattered throughout the medieval village with a program that spans different languages, from post-punk to contemporary songwriting, and from indie rock to new electronica.
Among the artists announced for the 29th edition are The Antlers, Black Country, New Road, Cate Le Bon, Soulwax, Dry Cleaning, Horsegirl, Wednesday, I Cani, as well as jasmine.4.t, Annahstasia, Deki Alem, DITTER, GANS, Julie Rains, Chinese American Bear, Friko, The New Eves, and many other names from the international alternative scene. The organization has announced that further artists will be revealed in the weeks leading up to the event.

Castelbuono is located in the Madonie Park, about 90 minutes from Palermo's "Falcone-Borsellino" airport. By car, it can be reached via the A19/A20 motorway, taking the Castelbuono exit or nearby exits; by train, the Castelbuono station is connected to the Palermo-Messina line, with shuttle services from the historic center during the festival.

Ypsicamping is available with passes starting from 52 euros per person for stays of 1 to 4 nights, with tent-included packages starting from approximately 105 euros.
We recommend booking accommodation in Castelbuono and nearby villages well in advance, given the high turnout during the festival dates, and wearing comfortable shoes for moving between the various stages scattered throughout the historic center.
