Gastronomic evenings, live music, and community spirit in the heart of the Roman Sabina

The Youth Festival in Ponzano Romano is one of the most anticipated summer events in this small town within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in northern Lazio, on the border with Sabina and Umbria. The event began in 2015 thanks to a group of local young people who formed the Giovani a na certa maniera association, a group of volunteers who organize social, cultural, and recreational activities for the village throughout the year.
Don't let the name fool you: while primarily aimed at a younger audience, the festival is designed for all ages and attracts families, adults, and visitors from neighboring towns in the Tiber Valley every year.
The event is held at the San Sebastiano Sports Center, on Via San Sebastiano, just outside the historic center of Ponzano Romano. It is a spacious, well-equipped outdoor area that allows for food stalls, a bar, a music stage, and a play area without congesting the alleys of the medieval village, which is perched on a spur overlooking the Tiber plain.
The culinary aspect is the heart of the festival. The kitchens, managed by the association's volunteers, offer carefully curated menus every evening, drawing from Roman and Sabine recipes. Highlights from past editions include:
There is also an aperitif area and a bar that keep the square lively until late at night.
Every evening is accompanied by live music: past editions have featured tribute bands playing classic Italian singer-songwriter hits, DJ sets, and various entertainment performances. The program has also hosted motorcycle rallies, animation, and games for children, making the festival truly family-friendly.
The event has always maintained a charitable spirit: in several editions, a portion of the proceeds from every menu sold has been donated to support local families, confirming the community spirit that drives the organizing association.
Ponzano Romano has just over a thousand inhabitants and retains a historic center clustered around the Colonna castle. A few kilometers away stands the Abbey of Sant'Andrea in Flumine, a Romanesque jewel nestled in the countryside along the Tiber, and nearby lies the Tevere-Farfa Nature Reserve, an ideal destination for hiking and birdwatching. The area is also known for its asparagus, a local product celebrated at another village festival. Attending the Youth Festival is therefore an excellent opportunity to discover a corner of Lazio still untouched by mass tourism, less than an hour from Rome.
Those arriving in the evening will find the sports field lit up, the scent of the grill, long and noisy tables, young people serving at the tables, and music playing until late. It is a village festival in its most authentic form: no spectacle, just plenty of conviviality and affordable prices.
At the moment, there are no official announcements regarding the dates for the 2026 edition of the Youth Festival in Ponzano Romano. Based on previous years, the event is expected in the second half of July or early August, with the usual format: themed gastronomic evenings at the San Sebastiano Sports Center, live music, a bar area, and games for children.
We recommend checking dates and programs on the Giovani a na certa maniera association's channels or at the Municipality of Ponzano Romano before traveling.
By car: Take the A1 Milan-Naples motorway, exit at Ponzano Romano-Soratte, then follow signs for the town; the San Sebastiano Sports Center is located on Via San Sebastiano, just outside the village. It is about 55 km from Rome (a little less than an hour).
By train: The nearest useful stations are Poggio Mirteto or Stimigliano on the FL1 line, followed by a short drive.
Admission to the festival area is traditionally free; you only pay for what you consume at the food stalls, with typical village festival prices.
Ample parking is available near the sports center. We recommend arriving early on Saturday nights, as they are the most crowded. For updated dates and programs, it is best to follow the organizing association's Facebook page or contact the Municipality of Ponzano Romano.
