About Dolomiti di Brenta Trail

The XTERRA Dolomiti di Brenta Trail is one of Italy's most spectacular trail running races, starting and finishing on the shores of Lake Molveno in Trentino. Every September, athletes test themselves across three distances—21K, 45K, and 64K—traversing the trails of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage mountain range. This sold-out event attracts runners from every continent to a natural setting of rare beauty, featuring jagged dolomite peaks, alpine passes, and stunning lake views.

Running in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites

The XTERRA Dolomiti di Brenta Trail is the premier trail running event in the municipality of Molveno, in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Starting and finishing on the shores of the picturesque Lake Molveno, the race leads athletes along the trails of the Brenta Dolomites, a mountain group recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, winding through rocky spires, high-altitude passes, and forests. It is no coincidence that the race is known as "a run in the most beautiful mountains in the world."

Three distances for every level

The event offers three courses, all starting and finishing in Molveno, designed to accommodate both experienced trail runners and those new to mountain racing:

  • 64K (Ultra): 64 km with 4,200 meters of elevation gain; the most technical and challenging route, reaching the Grostè Pass and the heart of the Brenta group.
  • 45K (Medium): 45 km with 2,850 meters of elevation gain, considered the signature route of the event.
  • 21K (Short): 21 km with 1,250 meters of elevation gain; the most accessible distance, ideal for a first alpine trail.

An international, sold-out event

Affiliated with the international XTERRA circuit, the race has grown into a world-class event. Recent editions have sold out, hosting a thousand athletes from dozens of nations across five continents. The longer races also grant points and qualifications for international trail running championships, drawing some of the discipline's top specialists to Molveno.

The territory and atmosphere

Beyond the competitive aspect, the Dolomiti di Brenta Trail is an opportunity to experience the Trentino region authentically. The Brenta Dolomites, Lake Molveno, and the villages of the Paganella Plateau provide the backdrop for an event that combines sport, nature, and mountain hospitality. The finish line on the lake beach, with award ceremonies in the late afternoon, concludes a day of celebration shared by athletes, supporters, and enthusiasts.
