The trail running race in the most beautiful mountains in the world
The XTERRA Dolomiti di Brenta Trail is the premier trail running event in the municipality of Molveno, in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Starting and finishing on the shores of the picturesque Lake Molveno, the race leads athletes along the trails of the Brenta Dolomites, a mountain group recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, winding through rocky spires, high-altitude passes, and forests. It is no coincidence that the race is known as "a run in the most beautiful mountains in the world."
The event offers three courses, all starting and finishing in Molveno, designed to accommodate both experienced trail runners and those new to mountain racing:
Affiliated with the international XTERRA circuit, the race has grown into a world-class event. Recent editions have sold out, hosting a thousand athletes from dozens of nations across five continents. The longer races also grant points and qualifications for international trail running championships, drawing some of the discipline's top specialists to Molveno.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Dolomiti di Brenta Trail is an opportunity to experience the Trentino region authentically. The Brenta Dolomites, Lake Molveno, and the villages of the Paganella Plateau provide the backdrop for an event that combines sport, nature, and mountain hospitality. The finish line on the lake beach, with award ceremonies in the late afternoon, concludes a day of celebration shared by athletes, supporters, and enthusiasts.
The 2026 edition, the tenth of the event, is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Molveno, Trentino. The three distances are confirmed: 64K (4,200m D+), 45K (2,850m D+), and 21K (1,250m D+), all starting and finishing on the shores of the lake.
The program includes bib collection and the briefing on Friday, September 4, in Molveno. On Saturday, starts are staggered: 64K at 6:00 AM, 45K at 7:30 AM, and 21K at 10:00 AM. Awards ceremonies are scheduled from 5:30 PM on the beach of Lake Molveno. For the 45K and 64K races, the GPS tracker provided by the organization is mandatory.
Molveno can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (take the San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona or Trento exits) and heading up towards the Paganella Plateau. The nearest train station is Trento, which is connected to Molveno by regional bus services.
Registration is available online via the official website. For the 2026 edition, entry fees are 40 euros (21K), 60 euros (45K), and 80 euros (64K). For the 45K and 64K races, the GPS tracker provided by the organization is mandatory.
Book accommodation in Molveno or nearby towns (Andalo, Fai della Paganella) well in advance, as the event attracts thousands of visitors. High-altitude appropriate trail gear is recommended.
