Women, engines, and innovation at the Imola Circuit
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit in Imola transforms into a large laboratory dedicated to gender equality with WOW Women Motor – Women Opening Ways. Launched in 2023, the event is promoted by the Municipality of Imola together with Formula Imola, CON.AMI, and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Imola, and has established itself as one of the most original events in the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley: a day that intertwines motorsport, training, innovation, and social commitment.
The initiative was created to introduce girls and women to the world of engines and technical-scientific professions, which are still underrepresented by women today. For one day, the renowned Imola circuit, located in the municipality of Imola and the Province of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna, opens its pits and track to the public with free admission, offering the opportunity to experience a temple of world motorsport up close in a new way, focusing on guidance, outreach, and testimonials.
The morning program is primarily dedicated to high school and university students, with experiences designed to introduce them to careers in the automotive sector:
In the afternoon, the event enters its more reflective phase with the WOW Conference, featuring panels, interviews, and testimonials on gender equality and guidance towards STEM professions. Protagonists from motorsport and engineering take the stage, while the day concludes with the awarding of the WOW Awards, recognitions dedicated to women who have distinguished themselves for their competence and impact on the territory, followed by a networking aperitif. A photographic exhibition and awareness campaigns complete an event that has made the Imola Circuit a symbol of March 8th in Emilia-Romagna.
The 2026 edition, the fourth of the event, confirmed on Sunday, March 8th at the Imola Circuit the formula that combines guidance, motorsport, and social commitment, with an opening also on Monday, March 9th dedicated to schools. The day was part of the Imola Living Lab initiative, strengthening the link between the Imola circuit and the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley.
The program alternated morning activities on the track, in the pits, and workshops, with the afternoon dedicated to the WOW conference.
The Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit is located in Imola, along the Santerno river, a few minutes from the historic center. By car, it can be reached from the Imola exit of the A14 Bologna-Taranto highway; by train, Imola station is on the Bologna-Rimini line, with the circuit a short walk or bus ride away.
Admission to WOW Women Motor is free and open to the public. Individual activities (workshops, hot laps, guided tours) require registration, often directly on-site or through the dedicated page on the Circuit's website. It is advisable to consult the updated program in the days preceding March 8th.
