A showcase of artisanal excellence and woodworking in the Varaita Valley
For over thirty years, the Wood Festival has been the premier spring event in Brossasco, a town in the Varaita Valley in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Founded in the late 1980s, the event celebrates the region's deep-rooted vocation for woodworking: a supply chain that begins in the dense forests of the Occitan mountains and reaches homes through the skilled hands of local artisans.
Throughout the festival, the town's main streets and squares—from Via Roma to Piazza Savorgnan and Piazza Costanzo Chiari—are filled with stalls, exhibitors, and workshops. Visitors can admire the exhibition of excellent craftsmanship, discover ancient trades, and browse the market of local agri-food products. Local workshops open their doors for tours to discover local production.
The Wood Festival is not just a commercial showcase: it is a moment of strong identity for the Brossasco community. Alongside artisanal activities, there is space for the most cherished traditions, such as music from the Brossasco Band and events linked to the feast of Saint Joseph. Occitan dances and music recall the cultural roots of this alpine valley, where the language and traditions from across the Alps are still alive.
Thanks to workshops for children, guided tours, and the village atmosphere, the Wood Festival is a perfect opportunity to spend a day in the Varaita Valley, combining the discovery of Piedmontese craftsmanship with a walk through the mountains of the Cuneo area.
Brossasco is located in the Varaita Valley, in the province of Cuneo. By car, it can be reached from Saluzzo along the SP8 road up the valley. The nearest train station is in Saluzzo, from where you can continue by bus or car. During the event, the historic center is largely pedestrianized.
Admission to the event is free. Exhibitors and exhibitions are generally open from morning until evening. In recent editions, a free shuttle service has been available to connect the different areas of the festival and the town's workshops.
