The solidarity-driven women's run in Bressanone
The Women's Run Brixen is one of the most popular sporting and charitable events in South Tyrol. This non-competitive, women-only race turns the historic center of Bressanone (Brixen), in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, into a sea of pink every late August. Organized by the ASV Brixen Dolomiten Marathon, the event starts and finishes in the picturesque Piazza Duomo (Domplatz), at an altitude of 560 meters.
The philosophy of the Women's Run is simple: no stress, no performance pressure, no timers, and no race numbers. Participants complete a course of just over 4 kilometers—two laps through the historic streets—either running or walking at their own pace. Everyone wears the same pink shirt, creating a vibrant "pink sea" that sweeps through the city. The event's motto is "All different – all women."
The Women's Run Brixen is more than just a race; it is a powerful gesture of solidarity. One-third of the registration fees are donated to the initiative "es geat di a un – it's your turn," which provides rapid, bureaucracy-free assistance to women who are victims of violence. In 2025, the event raised 12,000 euros for this vital cause.
The festivities don't end at the finish line. Before the start, there is a group warm-up on the main stage, while a children's bike course is set up in Piazza Hofburg. After the race, the event transforms into a lively After Race Party in the square, featuring live music, food, and drinks. The Women's Run Brixen has become a staple of the Bressanone summer calendar, successfully blending sport, community, and social commitment.
Founded in 2013, the Women's Run Brixen has grown year after year to become one of the most cherished women's events in Trentino-South Tyrol. The 2025 edition set a new record with over 1,200 participants, and up to 1,500 women are expected for 2026. The success of the event proves how sport can be a powerful tool for awareness: running together in Bressanone sends a message of strength, solidarity, and respect. The stunning backdrop of the cathedral city, with its Piazza Duomo and historic streets, makes every edition an unforgettable experience.
The 14th edition of the Women's Run Brixen is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026, in Bressanone, with the start and finish at Piazza Duomo. Registration, which opened on March 8, 2026, for International Women's Day, is now sold out, with up to 1,500 participants expected.
The course covers 4 km over two laps in the historic center (560 m altitude), with no timers. One-third of the registration fee is donated to the "es geat di a un – it's your turn" initiative to support victims of domestic violence.
