Chioggia's Winter Sailing
The Winter Championship - Roberto Doria Trophy is one of the historic events of offshore sailing in the Upper Adriatic. Now in its 49th edition in 2026, it takes place in the waters off Chioggia, a lagoon city in the province of Venice, with its logistical base at Darsena Le Saline, which offers free mooring to participants.
Racing Classes and Formula
The championship is organized by Il Portodimare in collaboration with the Yacht Club Padova and brings together the main offshore sailing classes: ORC (divisions A, B, C), ORC Light, and Meteor (in real time). The races are held over several winter weekends, with a cumulative ranking that rewards consistency throughout the series.
An Adriatic Tradition
Named after Roberto Doria, a key figure in local sailing, the trophy attracts crews from all over the Veneto region and beyond each year, even with the light winds typical of the cold season. It is an event that combines sporting competition and maritime passion, confirming Chioggia as one of the most active sailing hubs in the Upper Adriatic, alongside Venice and the Venetian lagoon.
Roberto Doria Trophy — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 49th, of the Winter Championship - Roberto Doria Trophy took place in the waters of Chioggia with races scheduled for March 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15. The briefing was held on Sunday, March 1st at 9:00 AM, with free mooring at Darsena Le Saline. Competing were the ORC, OPEN, and Meteor classes. Despite the light wind on the first day, the opening race saw 24 boats at the start.
