The winter trail running event in the hills of Valdengo, Biella
The Winter Brich Trail is the trail running event that brings Valdengo, a small town in the Province of Biella, Piedmont, to life every winter. Organized by ASD Winter Brich Valdengo, the race takes place entirely on trails and dirt roads, passing through the hamlets and villages of the Biellese hills. The start and finish lines are located at the Municipal Sports Center on Via Libertà, the event's logistical hub.
The event is designed to satisfy both experienced athletes and those looking for a more relaxed outing in nature. There are four tracks available:
Over the years, the Winter Brich Trail has grown to become a staple of the winter calendar. The race is ITRA-certified and part of the UTMB World Series circuit: the results allow athletes to obtain or update their UTMB Index, which is essential for accessing major international ultratrails. It is no surprise, therefore, that the event attracts over a thousand participants every year from Piedmont, the rest of Italy, and neighboring Switzerland.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Winter Brich Trail is appreciated for its careful organization and warm hospitality: generous race packs, refreshment stations along the routes, and the unmissable pasta party at the finish line, a convivial moment that concludes the day of sport. In the middle of winter, the Biellese hills offer a picturesque setting that combines the physical challenge of running with the beauty of the local natural landscape.
Valdengo is a village in the Biellese foothills, just a few kilometers from Biella, nestled in a landscape of hills, woods, and vineyards. For the town, the Winter Brich Trail represents an important opportunity for tourism and sports promotion, capable of bringing hundreds of athletes and their companions to discover the trails and hospitality of this corner of Piedmont in a single day.
The 2026 edition, the 16th of the event, was held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with start and finish at the Municipal Sports Center of Valdengo, in the Province of Biella. The day brought together over a thousand participants divided among the four offerings: the 42 km competitive race (1900 meters of elevation gain), the 23 km, the 13 km, and the 9 km non-competitive walk.
ITRA certification and validity for the UTMB World Series were confirmed. The event, organized by ASD Winter Brich Valdengo, also saw the participation of Mayor Roberto Pella and concluded with the traditional pasta party at the finish line.
