Street art, writing, and urban culture at the Gescal in Tufino
The Wall Street Festival was born in 2026 in Tufino, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the heart of the Agro Nolano area of Campania. The concept is as simple as it is ambitious: take a peripheral, underutilized space—the Gescal district on Via dei Faggi—and give it back to the community through color, design, and creativity. For two days, the neighborhood's anonymous walls become a shared narrative surface, and the street transforms into an open-air creative laboratory.
The festival is explicitly dedicated to street art, writing, and contemporary urban artistic expression, with the clear goal of turning public spaces into hubs for gathering, cultural identity, and social regeneration. The organizers present it as the first major event in the Agro Nolano area capable of embracing urban art in its entirety, involving writers, street artists, painters, photographers, performers, musicians, and buskers.
The Wall Street Festival stems from a collaboration between three local entities: the Municipality of Tufino, the Pro Loco Tufino, and the Saba Movement Crew, a youth-led group active in promoting urban art and street culture in the Nola area. It is this youth component that gives the project its unique character: it is not a top-down operation, but an initiative built by those who live this culture daily. The organizers have designed the festival to be a recurring event with the potential to tour the region.
The visual heart of the event is the live painting: fourteen writers and street artists work live on a wall over 60 meters long, curated by Street Fighters Jam. Rather than viewing a finished work, the public witnesses the process—from the preparatory sketch to the final fill—following the birth of a collective mural that remains in the neighborhood as a permanent landmark. This is what distinguishes an urban art festival from a traditional exhibition: here, the artwork is created right before the audience's eyes.
Alongside the wall, an open-air painting and photography exhibition featuring over fourteen artists, curated by Celeste Napolitano, unfolds alongside urban installations and performances scattered throughout the Gescal area. A place of honor is reserved for the 2026 Carro degli Artigiani (Artisans' Float) from Cicciano, titled I Baci sul Pane: a handcrafted work conceived by Barbato De Stefano and created by local master craftsmen, on display for the duration of the festival. Its presence creates an intriguing dialogue between Campanian devotional craftsmanship—with its long tradition of floats and festival machines—and the more contemporary language of the spray can.
The Wall Street Festival is not just for insiders. A large family area, managed by Hollywood Animazioni, offers street performers, caricaturists, juggling, mascots, inflatables, and entertainment for children, while the food court remains open throughout the two days. The event concludes with a freestyle battle organized in collaboration with iGradoni, featuring performers and MCs from the Campanian hip-hop scene: improvised rhymes, direct challenges, and an actively participating audience, in the best tradition of urban jams.
Tufino has just over three thousand inhabitants and is best known for its high-quality hazelnuts, used in local pastry making. It is located a short distance from Nola and the main route connecting Naples to the Vesuvius hinterland and the Nolano area. For visitors, the festival is also an opportunity to discover a corner of Campania far from the classic tourist circuits, where urban regeneration is driven by the concrete work of local associations and young people.
The Wall Street Festival debuted in Tufino on June 1 and 2, 2026, in the spaces of the Gescal on Via dei Faggi 80, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on the first day and from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM on the second. The event was promoted by the Municipality of Tufino together with the Pro Loco and the Saba Movement Crew, with the aim of transforming a peripheral public space into a place for gathering and social regeneration.
The program alternated between live artistic production, exhibitions, and entertainment, with special attention given to families during the day and the Campanian hip-hop scene in the evening.
