Open-air music festival in the woods of Trens, Upper Isarco Valley
The Waldstadion Open Air Trens is one of the most distinctive summer musical events in the Upper Isarco Valley (Wipptal), located in the municipality of Campo di Trens/Freienfeld, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). The festival takes its name from its venue, the Waldstadion: the old sports field in the village of Trens, situated in a clearing surrounded by woods, a natural backdrop that sets this event apart from any other open-air festival in the region.
The program is spread over two evenings with distinct characters. Friday is dedicated to rock, with a punchier and more energetic vibe than traditional village festivals: for the first time, the Waldstadion offers a "harder" evening, designed for live music enthusiasts. Saturday changes pace, offering a varied program ranging from brass band music (Blasmusik) to folk, schlager, pop, and DJ sets that keep the party going until late at night.
One of the most anticipated moments is the participation of brass bands from the Wipptal and surrounding areas, which on Saturday morning perform a Sternmarsch (star march) towards the Waldstadion, followed by a collective performance. Groups such as the Vereinskapelle of Colle Isarco (Gossensaß) and the Musikkapelle of Mules (Mauls) are part of this South Tyrolean brass band tradition, which is deeply rooted in the local culture.
The first edition of the Wald-Stadion Open Air was held in 2023, as part of the Dorffest Trens, the historic village festival. From 2026, the open-air event became an autonomous and independent festival, organized by a committee of six local associations from Trens, with its own identity and a dedicated lineup that also includes a VIP area and a raffle to support local community activities.
More than just a concert, the Waldstadion Open Air is a community moment for Campo di Trens and the entire Isarco Valley: volunteers, bands, associations, and families gather in the woods for two days of music, great food, and conviviality, in the true spirit of South Tyrolean festive tradition.
The 2026 edition marked the first outing of the Waldstadion Open Air as an autonomous event, following its 2023 debut within the Dorffest Trens. The event took place over two days, Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the characteristic Waldstadion nestled in the woods of the Trens village.
Friday was dedicated to rock, with a more decisive tone compared to traditional village festivals. Saturday offered a varied program with brass band music (Blasmusik), folk music, schlager, pop, and DJ sets. In the morning, brass bands from the Wipptal and surrounding areas performed a Sternmarsch towards the Waldstadion, with a collective performance. A VIP pass with grandstand, buffet, and reserved parking was also available.
Friday, May 29, 2026 — Live rock evening.
Saturday, May 30, 2026 — Sternmarsch of the Wipptal brass bands (morning) with collective performance; in the afternoon and evening, brass band music, folk, schlager, pop, and DJ sets.
The Waldstadion is located at Via Fraxen 1, in the village of Trens, municipality of Campo di Trens/Freienfeld (BZ). By car: take the Vipiteno/Sterzing exit on the A22 Brenner motorway, then follow signs for Campo di Trens. The nearest train station is Vipiteno-Val di Vizze, on the Brenner line.
Admission is ticketed; a VIP pass is also available, offering reserved access, a grandstand with a view of the stage, buffet, drinks, and dedicated parking. Tickets are sold online through the event's official platforms.
As this is an outdoor event in the woods, we recommend wearing clothing suitable for cool mountain evenings and comfortable shoes.
