Commemorating the Resistance and Liberation Day in Avolasca
Waiting for April 25th is the event through which the Pro Loco of Avolasca, a small town nestled in the hills of the Tortona area in the province of Alessandria, leads the community toward Liberation Day. The event takes place at the Avolasca Pro Loco area, on Via del Municipio, and offers a day that weaves together historical memory, storytelling, and conviviality.
The heart of the event lies in the stories and readings dedicated to the Second World War period and the partisan struggle that swept through the hills and territory of the Tortona area. The initiative is aimed at those who fought for freedom and those who still believe in the values of the Resistance today, transforming a commemorative moment into an occasion for meeting and shared reflection.
In keeping with the tradition of the Piedmont region and the entire anti-fascist memory, the day includes the partisan pasta, offered to all present. It is a symbolic gesture that recalls the historic pasta distributed in July 1943 and which, throughout Italy, accompanies the celebrations linked to the Liberation, bringing participants together around the table.
Special attention is paid to the new generations: the program includes readings on the Resistance designed for children, so that the memory of freedom may be passed on to the youngest in an accessible and engaging way. Historical insights such as "The Resistance in the Tortona area and on the hills" complete the picture of a day that aims to be both a celebration and a narrative.
Organized by the Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality of Avolasca, the event is an example of how even small villages in Piedmont preserve and renew the memory of the Liberation. A free event open to everyone, immersed in the hilly landscape among the vineyards and woods of the province of Alessandria.
The 2026 edition of Waiting for April 25th took place at the Avolasca Pro Loco area on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the Liberation. The program featured, from 11:00 AM, the historical deep-dive "The Resistance in the Tortona area and on the hills," followed by the partisan pasta offered to those present. In the afternoon, readings on the Resistance for children were offered, with stories and moments dedicated to anti-fascist memory. The day, with free admission, combined historical reflection and conviviality in the hilly village of the Tortona area, in the province of Alessandria.
