Tuscany's largest sports festival in Borgo San Lorenzo
Every year, Borgo San Lorenzo, the main town in the Mugello area near Florence, turns into the Tuscan capital of sport with Vivilosport Mugello. Established in 1993 and now a benchmark for the entire Tuscany region, the event fills the Foro Boario and surrounding areas with over 300 activities spread across four days, running from early morning until midnight.
Recognized as a Metropolitan Sports Festival, Vivilosport involves over 110 sports clubs and federations, hundreds of coaches and volunteers, and thousands of young athletes. Exhibitions, open training sessions, tournaments, and free trials allow the public of all ages to discover dozens of disciplines for free: from team sports like basketball, volleyball, and handball to martial arts and judo, gymnastics, dance, archery, chess, cycling, kayaking, and car and motorcycle rallies.
Beyond the competitive side, the event dedicates significant space to inclusion and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Courses on using defibrillators are provided, along with activities promoted by the local health authority (ASL) regarding assisted physical activity and addiction prevention, plus the presence of the Traffic Police with safety awareness campaigns. There are also moments designed for the little ones, such as Bimbimbici, a family bike ride along the local roads and cycle paths.
Promoted by the Municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo together with the Vivilosport association, with the support of the Union of Mugello Municipalities and the Health Society, the event attracts participants from all over Tuscany. Vivilosport is not just a showcase for local sports clubs, but an opportunity to experience sport in every aspect, discover new disciplines, and spend four days with the family dedicated to movement, fun, and social interaction in the hilly landscape of Mugello.
The 33rd edition of Vivilosport Mugello brought Borgo San Lorenzo to life from May 14th to 17th, 2026, confirming the format of four intense days with over 300 appointments. Among the novelties were the introduction of seven new sports disciplines and an increasing focus on inclusion and safety.
The event confirmed its status as a benchmark for sports clubs in Mugello and all of Tuscany, with thousands of young athletes participating in exhibitions, competitions, and open trials.
Throughout the event: courses on using defibrillators, ASL activities on assisted physical activity and addiction prevention, and safety campaigns with the Traffic Police. Disciplines represented include: basketball, volleyball, handball, judo, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, chess, archery, kayaking, and cycling.
Borgo San Lorenzo can be reached by car via the SP551 and the SR302 Faentina road, which connects Florence to Mugello. By train, the Borgo San Lorenzo station is served by the Faentina line (Florence-Borgo San Lorenzo-Faenza). The Foro Boario is just a few minutes' walk from the historic center.
Admission to all Vivilosport Mugello activities is free.
The event takes place largely outdoors: comfortable, sporty clothing is recommended. Many activities are designed for children and families. For car and motorcycle rallies and evening events, it is advisable to check the times on the official program.
