The global UISP run in the Parco della Favorita
Vivicittà is one of Italy's longest-running and most iconic running events: conceived and organized by UISP (Italian Union for Sport for All), it has been held since 1984 simultaneously in dozens of Italian and foreign cities, ideally connected by the same starting gun. In Palermo, in the heart of Sicily, the event is now a classic of the city's sporting spring, capable of attracting hundreds of participants, from registered athletes to casual enthusiasts.
The race takes place entirely within the Real Parco della Favorita, the historic green lung of the Sicilian capital at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. The start and finish are located at the Stadio delle Palme Vito Schifani: athletes take on a single 10-kilometer loop that passes through Case Rocca, via Ercole, the Leoni gate, viale Diana, Pallavicino, the famous Palazzina Cinese, and the Pitrè gate, where the turnaround point is located, before returning to the stadium on viale del Fante.
Vivicittà offers two formats: the competitive race of 10 km, reserved for UISP and FIDAL members in compliance with registration rules, and the recreational walk, open to everyone, which turns the morning into a celebration of popular sport. The spirit of the event has always been one of inclusion: in Palermo, it is not rare to see athletes over 80 crossing the finish line alongside younger runners and families.
More than just a race, for over forty years Vivicittà has been an event that weaves together sport, civic engagement, and attention to social and environmental issues. Each edition proposes a central theme linked to UISP values: solidarity, accessibility of sport, urban regeneration, and sustainability. The Palermo stage, organized by the UISP Committee of Palermo, confirms the deep bond between the city and a race that has enlivened the Parco della Favorita for decades.
Running Vivicittà in Palermo also means rediscovering one of the most evocative places in the Municipality of Palermo: the Parco della Favorita, with its tree-lined avenues, historic villas, and the backdrop of Monte Pellegrino, offers an ideal setting for a morning in the open air. The event, also broadcast via national radio link, reaffirms every year the role of the Sicilian capital within the great network of cities that participate in the global UISP run on the same day.
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, Palermo hosted the 42nd edition of Vivicittà, starting at 9:30 AM from the Stadio delle Palme Vito Schifani with a 10 km route in the Parco della Favorita. The edition, which involved about 40 cities in Italy and around the world, had as its theme "Triple jump: include, regenerate, innovate", dedicated to the accessibility of sport and urban regeneration.
Over 450 athletes were at the start. Among the men, Yuri Floriani (Marathon Altofonte), a former Olympic finalist in the 3000m steeplechase, won, finishing in 33'48 and securing yet another success in the event. Among the women, Cristina Garcia Conde (Team Atletica Palermo) prevailed in 39'09, repeating her victory from the previous year. In the inclusive spirit of the race, three athletes over 80 also crossed the finish line.
The Stadio delle Palme Vito Schifani is located on viale del Fante, inside the Parco della Favorita, in Palermo. By car, it can be reached from the ring road (circonvallazione); numerous AMAT bus lines connect the city center to the Favorita and stadium area.
The competitive race is reserved for UISP and FIDAL members. Registration fees start from approximately 15 euros for standard entries, with increases for late registration and a higher fee for non-members (including membership). The recreational walk is open to everyone. Information and forms are available at the UISP Committee of Palermo.
Check the list of roads closed to traffic in the park area on the day of the race in advance. We recommend sportswear suitable for the spring season.
