International powerboat racing on Lake Viverone
The Viverone Waterfestival has become a traditional highlight of the Piedmontese summer and one of Italy's most important powerboat racing events. Every year, Lake Viverone, located in the municipality of Viverone in the province of Biella, turns into a massive natural circuit where racing hulls roar and national, European, and world titles are decided. The event is organized by the Rainbow Team, a highly experienced racing stable from Casale, in partnership with the Italian Powerboat Federation, with the support of the Piedmont Region and the Municipality of Viverone.
The lake basin, nestled between the Serra moraine and the hills of Eastern Piedmont, offers a spectacular setting and an ideal backdrop for competitions: the shores allow the public to follow the races up close, while pilots tackle a fast and technical track. The categories competing in Viverone range from youth classes to the highest international series, including Italian, European, and World Championships in the Formula Junior Élite, GT30, Formula 4, and Formula 2 classes.
The big news for the 2026 edition, scheduled from August 7 to 9, is the single-race event for the Formula 2 European Championship title: an occasion that will bring some of the world's best powerboat pilots to the Biella lake. Formula 2 is one of the most spectacular categories in the sport, featuring single-seaters capable of impressive speeds, and the single-race format makes every heat decisive for the continental title.
The Waterfestival is much more than a sporting event. Along the lakeside, in collaboration with the local Pro Loco and regional partners, numerous side activities come to life: live music, street food areas featuring local flavors, boat displays, and entertainment designed for families. Previous editions have also featured exhibitions of vintage racing boats and the chance to experience the adrenaline of powerboat racing up close, making the event a true celebration for the entire community.
Thanks to the international resonance of the competitions, the Waterfestival has become an important tourist showcase for Viverone and the entire Piedmont region, attracting enthusiasts, athletes, and visitors from all over Italy and abroad. The event highlights Lake Viverone, one of the most beloved natural destinations in the Biella area, and helps promote the territory in the heart of summer.
