The interregional children's music festival in San Maurizio Canavese
Viva la Musica! is a unique event in the educational landscape of Northern Italy: an interregional music festival entirely dedicated to preschool and primary school children. Every year, on a day in May, the center of San Maurizio Canavese, in the Province of Turin (Piedmont), transforms into a massive open-air stage where around one thousand children, together with their teachers and school administrators, become the true stars of the show.
The event was born from the vision of the CSMC BiblioPan Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of San Maurizio Canavese, and has quickly established itself as a gathering capable of crossing regional borders. Schools from Piedmont are joined by institutions from Lombardy and Liguria, making San Maurizio Canavese the capital of school music in the North-West for a day.
The program spans the entire day. The welcome takes place in Piazza Marconi with musical games and greetings from the municipal administration; this is followed by a colorful parade through the town streets, the true visual heart of the festival. The morning continues with educational music activities at the Sports Hall, while the afternoon features performances, surprise guests, and shared moments, culminating in the final ceremony with the presentation of certificates to all participating schools.
More than just a simple review, Viva la Musica! is an educational project that places music at the center of children's growth and community building. Past editions have seen the participation of schools from cities such as Genoa, Abbiategrasso, Crescentino, Turin, Ciriè, and Saluggia, reflecting a network that grows year by year. For the Municipality of San Maurizio Canavese, it has become a defining event that engages families, associations, and the entire town.
The fourth edition of Viva la Musica! brought about a thousand children from Piedmont, Lombardy, and Liguria to San Maurizio Canavese. Among the year's novelties was the participation of institutions from Genoa and Abbiategrasso (Milan), alongside schools from Crescentino, Turin, Ciriè, San Maurizio Canavese, and Saluggia.
The day followed the usual rhythm: welcome in Piazza Marconi with musical games and institutional greetings at 10:00 AM, a colorful parade through the town streets, educational music activities at the Sports Hall, a lunch break at the municipal sports field, and in the afternoon, performances, surprise guests, and the screening of a documentary video. At 3:30 PM, the final ceremony took place with the presentation of certificates to all participating institutions.
San Maurizio Canavese is located in the Province of Turin, in the Canavese area. By car, it can be reached via the SP13 or the Turin ring road towards Caselle/Airport. By train, the reference station is Ciriè (Turin-Ceres line), just a few kilometers away.
The event is dedicated to participating schools; participation is free. Activities take place in Piazza Marconi and along the streets of the town center.
The event is held on one day in May, typically from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a final ceremony in the afternoon.
