Auteur cinema under the stars in the suburbs of Bitonto
In Bitonto, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari in the heart of Puglia, auteur cinema comes to life outdoors every summer thanks to Visioni Periferiche - Art & Film Festival. Born from the vision of a group of young professionals under 35, gathered under the APS Collettivo Keep Rolling, the festival has a clear mission: to enhance urban peripheries by bringing quality films, discussions, and culture to places where they are usually absent. Its home is the Cittadella del Bambino (formerly Contessa), a space in the Bitonto suburbs that transforms into a cinema under the stars for a month.
The heart of Visioni Periferiche lies in its screenings of Italian and international auteur films, always accompanied by a meeting with a director, actor, or industry professional. Each evening thus becomes a collective experience of viewing, dialogue, and sharing. Admission is completely free and requires no booking: the event starts at 7:00 PM, with a talk preceding the screening. To make the atmosphere even more convivial, there is music, DJ sets, and a food & beverage area.
The festival dedicates special evenings to families and children, with animated films and workshops designed for a young audience. To participate in the Kids' evening workshops, booking via the dedicated form is required, while screenings remain open and free.
Visioni Periferiche is organized by the Collettivo Keep Rolling under the artistic direction of founder Nicolรฒ Ventafridda and the coordination of a young, passionate team. The festival is supported by the Regione Puglia, the Municipality of Bitonto, the Apulia Film Commission, and the Fondazione Vincenzo Casillo, involving numerous local associations that enliven the city's cultural life. It is a project that unites cinema, art, and social commitment, returning a space for meeting and growth to the Bitonto community.
The fourth edition of Visioni Periferiche enlivens the July 2026 evenings at the Cittadella del Bambino in Bitonto with seven free auteur cinema appointments. The program alternates award-winning Italian and international titles with two evenings dedicated to children, always with free access starting at 7:00 PM. The festival is organized by the Collettivo Keep Rolling under the artistic direction of Nicolรฒ Ventafridda, with the patronage of the Regione Puglia, the Municipality of Bitonto, the Apulia Film Commission, and the Fondazione Vincenzo Casillo.
Each screening is preceded by a talk with directors, actors, or film professionals. All evenings are accompanied by music and a food & beverage area.
