Piedmont's social clowns meet in Villar Perosa for a day of training, smiles, and solidarity
The VIP Piedmont Regional Gathering is the great annual festival for Piedmontese social clowns: a day when red-nosed volunteers leave behind hospital wards, nursing homes, and care facilities to come together, train, and have fun. In 2026, the event arrives in Villar Perosa, in the Province of Turin, within the green Parco del Bacino, in the northern sector adjacent to the sports fields.
VIP is the acronym for Viviamo in Positivo (We Live Positively), the national federation that coordinates dozens of clown therapy associations throughout Italy. Its volunteers practice hospital clowning: they bring smiles, play, and lightness to those experiencing fragility, from hospitalized children to the elderly in residential homes and people in community care. Behind the red nose lies a serious training path involving theatrical techniques, improvisation, and active listening.
The regional gathering was created specifically to strengthen this preparation. The day is marked by training workshops held by regional and national trainers, moments of joint training, and opportunities for exchange between the various groups in Piedmont. It is an opportunity to learn new techniques, meet other volunteers, and consolidate the team spirit that drives the movement.
The Villar Perosa edition is the third, following those hosted at Parco La Mandria in Venaria Reale and in Alessandria: the gathering moves from city to city, involving a different community in the Piedmontese territory each time. The organization is managed by VIP Pinerolo in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Villar Perosa and with the patronage of the Municipality of Villar Perosa.
Although primarily dedicated to volunteers, the day is also an opportunity to introduce the public to the world of social clowning, in line with the spirit of Red Nose Day. Amidst colors, laughter, and plenty of positive energy, the gathering is a small distillation of what the VIPs give every day to those who need it most.
The 2026 edition brought 137 registered clowns from all over Piedmont to Villar Perosa, gathered in the Parco del Bacino for a day entirely dedicated to social clown training. The organization was handled by VIP Pinerolo, led by president Mario Marino (clown Piriciof), together with Lorena Piga (Amica), Mara Palmero (Sofiatina), and Tiziana Capello (Caffellatte), in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Villar Perosa and with the patronage of the Municipality.
