The historic wine festival of Roncà, featuring Durello, Soave, and Recioto
Vini Vulcani (historically "Vini e Vulcani" - Wines and Volcanoes) is the DOC Wine Festival of Roncà, a municipality in the province of Verona nestled in the volcanic hills of eastern Verona. Now in its fiftieth edition, it is one of the most established food and wine festivals in the Verona area, dedicated to the wines that originate from the volcanic soils of this region.
The stars are the great DOC wines of the region: Durello dei Lessini, made from the Durella grape and particularly suited for sparkling wine production (recognized as DOC in 1987), Soave, and Recioto. The festival is an opportunity to discover and taste the productions of local wineries, in a journey that tells the deep connection between wine and the volcanic geology of Monte Calvarina.
The program typically opens with a conference dedicated to winemakers, in collaboration with Coldiretti, and continues with musical evenings for all tastes: from disco to ballroom dancing. The food stall offers local dishes, including the famous risotto al Durello. The Corsa delle Botti (Barrel Race) is a must-see, a test of skill in moving barrels that transforms the town into a fun-filled race track on Sunday.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Roncà, Vini Vulcani is the flagship event of a calendar that enlivens the town year-round thanks to the work of volunteers. For those visiting the Verona area in May, it is an authentic opportunity to discover volcanic wines and the hospitality of Lessinia.
The 2026 edition — the 54th — of Vini Vulcani is scheduled from May 18 to 23. The festival promotes the region's DOC wines (Durello, Soave, Recioto) with the presence of local wineries and a rich gastronomic menu. It opens with a conference dedicated to winemakers, in collaboration with Coldiretti, and continues with musical evenings and the Barrel Race.
