A Festival Running Since 1936
The Chestnut and Durello Wine Festival is the most important event in San Giovanni Ilarione, a municipality in the Val d'Alpone, province of Verona. Established in 1936, it celebrates the two products that best represent this territory: the chestnuts grown on the surrounding hills and the Vin Durello DOC from the Monti Lessini, a fresh white wine with a distinct acidity.
Between the Palio del Maron and Peasant Tradition
The heart of the festival is Piazza Colonna, where the food stalls, musical events, and agricultural initiatives are concentrated. Among the most cherished moments are the Palio del Maron, the costume parade, and the agricultural conference with Coldiretti, which commemorate the community's rural roots.
Autumn Flavours
The festival's cuisine features traditional dishes linked to chestnuts and the autumn flavours of the Lessini region, from chestnut risotto to specialties with speck, naturally paired with Vin Durello. This event makes San Giovanni Ilarione one of the chestnut capitals in the Veronese area.
Chestnut and Durello Wine Festival — edition 2026
After the 90th edition in 2025, the 91st Chestnut and Durello Wine Festival will once again liven up Piazza Colonna in San Giovanni Ilarione in the autumn of 2026. The festival's distinctive features are confirmed: food stalls with chestnut-based dishes, Vin Durello DOC from Lessini, the Palio del Maron, the costume parade, and the agricultural conference with Coldiretti. San Giovanni Ilarione (VR) is located in the Val d'Alpone. It can be reached by car from San Bonifacio and from the Soave-San Bonifacio or Montebello Vicentino exits of the A4 motorway. The festival takes place in Piazza Colonna.
