The Vinchio Carnival

The Vinchio Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the small town of Vinchio, located in the Province of Asti, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Monferrato hills. Organized by the Vinchio Pro Loco, this is an authentic village carnival, far removed from large allegorical float parades, focusing instead on community values: togetherness, celebrating the local area, and providing children with a space for outdoor play and social interaction.

A festival for all ages

The heart of the event is Piazza San Marco, the main square, which transforms for an afternoon into a small village of joy and fun. The festival combines two main elements: a scenic walk through the hills—a 5 km loop trail through the picturesque Vinchio landscape—and games and entertainment for children and teenagers, complete with masks, cheer, and traditional Piedmontese carnival sweets.

Among hills, vineyards, and tradition

Vinchio is famous for its Barbera d'Asti vineyards and the Vinchio-Vaglio Nature Reserve. The Carnival is the perfect opportunity to rediscover this area during a quieter season, walking among the dormant winter vineyards. The day traditionally concludes with the distribution of bugie and frittelle, the classic fried sweets of the Piedmontese carnival tradition, offered by the Pro Loco to all participants.

The event is part of a wider calendar of initiatives organized by the Vinchio Pro Loco for the season, including a community lunch featuring local traditional dishes at the Pro Loco hall. The Vinchio Carnival is a living testament to how, even in the small towns of the Province of Asti, folk traditions remain a shared heritage to be passed down.
