The carnival float parade between Villareia and Vallemare, in the heart of Cepagatti
The Villareia Carnival Float Parade is one of the most cherished carnival traditions in Cepagatti, a town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. Every year during the Carnival season, the village of Villareia transforms into a large open-air stage where floats, colorful costumes, music, and entertainment bring joy to visitors of all ages.
The highlight of the event is the float parade, which kicks off in Piazza di Villareia. The procession winds through the streets of the village to reach the Church of Vallemare, before returning to the heart of the square, which serves as the main stage for the festivities. Along the route, the floats—crafted with passion and creativity by local volunteers and associations—offer the public an explosion of color and imagination, accompanied by music and confetti.
The parade is organized by Pro Loco Cepagatti APS in partnership with the parishes of San Martino Vescovo in Vallemare and San Sebastiano Martire in Villareia, the Municipality of Cepagatti, and the VI.VA. Association. These local entities have worked together for years to keep the festive spirit alive, engaging families, children, folk groups, and tradition enthusiasts. The Villareia Carnival is more than just a parade; it is a moment of gathering that strengthens the community's sense of belonging.
Designed to be accessible and fun for everyone, the event offers an afternoon of pure joy: vibrant costumes, entertainment for children, music, and the unmistakable festive atmosphere of Carnival. With its intimate and family-friendly setting, Villareia is the perfect place to experience Carnival in its most authentic and popular form.
The Villareia parade is part of the rich calendar of the Abruzzo Carnival, which sees dozens of towns and villages come to life each year with processions, floats, and square parties, often promoted by the region's Pro Loco associations. In Cepagatti, the Carnival season extends beyond the Villareia and Vallemare parade to include other districts and the town center, confirming the vitality of a tradition deeply rooted in the local culture.
