Contemporary dance arrives at the former port of Montecastello with "The Four Seasons"
On June 20, 2026, the Municipality of Montecastello, in the Province of Alessandria, becomes the stage for one of the most evocative stops of Vignale in Danza, the historic International Dance Festival that enlivens the Piedmontese Monferrato every summer. The evening, scheduled from 9:00 PM at the former port of Montecastello, along Via Isorella, features "The Four Seasons", a new choreographic creation signed by Tommaso Monza and performed by the Natiscalzi DT company.
"The Four Seasons" is an original show created in collaboration with the Free University of Brescia and presented in the 2026 edition of the festival before being replicated in other municipalities in the area, including Mirabello Monferrato on July 11. Tommaso Monza's choreography translates the cycle of the seasons into movement, intertwining technical rigor and expressiveness: a contemporary choreographic language that dialogues with the open spaces of the Monferrato, restoring to dance its popular and accessible dimension.
The Montecastello stage is part of the "Aspettando Vignale in Danza" section, the widespread program that precedes and accompanies the main festival in Vignale Monferrato. Starting from June 13, this review takes dance out of theaters and into the streets and squares of municipalities such as Alessandria, Montecastello, Mirabello Monferrato, and Quargnento. The goal is clear: to make great dance a shared heritage, capable of reaching even the smallest centers of the Province of Alessandria.
Vignale in Danza is an event founded in 1978 and artistically directed by Michela Maggiolo. In recent years, it has experienced extraordinary growth, going from a few hundred spectators at its debut to over seven thousand attendees. The festival develops throughout the Monferrato summer—from June until autumn—with shows, international competitions, masterclasses, artistic residencies, and cultural paths. The Montecastello stage represents one of the moments in which this energy reaches the local public.
Attending "The Four Seasons" at the former port of Montecastello means experiencing contemporary dance in an authentic and evocative context, far from the large urban circuits. It is an opportunity to discover a corner of the Monferrato, a land of hills and vineyards recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and to be surprised by the expressive power of a company that has made the contamination between discipline and poetry its signature.
As part of the 2026 edition of the festival, Montecastello hosts the first of the replicas of "The Four Seasons", a choreographic creation by Tommaso Monza for the Natiscalzi DT company. The show, created in collaboration with the Free University of Brescia, debuts among the festival's venues before arriving in other municipalities in the area, such as Mirabello Monferrato on July 11.
The stage is part of the "Aspettando Vignale in Danza" section, which since June 13 has been bringing dance to the streets of Alessandria, Montecastello, Mirabello Monferrato, and Quargnento.
The show takes place at the former port of Montecastello with a meeting point in the woods, from 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The stage is part of the "Aspettando Vignale in Danza" section. Any updates on times and participation methods are published on the official website www.vignaleindanza.com and by the Municipality of Montecastello.
