Silvio Viola's sculptures dedicated to peace within the halls of Palazzo Pretorio
Every spring, the Palazzo Pretorio of Buggiano Castello, in the municipality of Buggiano in the province of Pistoia (Tuscany), transforms into an exhibition space for a major art show that accompanies visitors well into the summer. In 2026, its halls will host "Viandanti di Pace", a solo exhibition by sculptor Silvio Viola dedicated to the theme of peace, expressed through sculptures and paintings.
Silvio Viola, a sculptor originally from Castelvecchio di Pescia, works primarily with stone—specifically that extracted from the quarries of the Pescia mountains—alongside painting and ceramics. His works have always explored movement, the human figure, and the relationship with nature: the title "Viandanti" (Wayfarers) evokes the idea of man on a journey, here explicitly linked to the universal message of peace. The result is a dialogue between the sculpted material and the light of the palace's historic halls, making each piece a stop on an ideal path.
The exhibition is organized by the Associazione Culturale Buggiano Castello APS, which has been enlivening the cultural life of this corner of the Valdinievole for years. Buggiano Castello is a medieval village known as the "Citrus Village," famous for its secret vegetable gardens and orchards where lemons and citrons have been cultivated for centuries. Visiting "Viandanti di Pace" is thus also an opportunity to discover Piazza Pretorio, the church of Santa Maria della Salute, and the most picturesque corners of the castle, just minutes from Montecatini Terme and the Valdinievole area.
The inauguration is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, in the afternoon; subsequently, the exhibition will be open every Sunday afternoon until July 26, 2026, with free admission. An event designed for those seeking a slow, intimate cultural experience, away from the crowds, immersed in the authentic atmosphere of a Tuscan village.
