About Via Vinaria

Via Vinaria is the food and wine event that transforms the hilltop village of Montecarlo, in the province of Lucca, into a grand tasting itinerary every spring. For an entire weekend, the wineries of the Montecarlo Wine Consortium open their doors to visitors: with a single tasting kit and a collector's glass in hand, you can explore the Montecarlo DOC vineyards and sample up to 36 different wines. A system of free shuttle buses connects the estates, allowing you to discover one of Tuscany's most renowned wine regions in total relaxation.

Via Vinaria: Montecarlo's wine, told through the glass

Via Vinaria is the premier wine tourism event in Montecarlo, a small and charming hilltop village in the province of Lucca, in the heart of north-western Tuscany. Launched in the spring of 2000, the event is promoted by the Municipality of Montecarlo together with the Montecarlo Wine Consortium and features a simple, winning format: a widespread wine trail that brings the public directly into the local farms and cellars, where producers welcome visitors to taste their DOC wines.

How the tasting trail works

The heart of Via Vinaria is the tasting kit: a single ticket provides you with a custom-printed collector's glass, a glass holder, the official event gadget, and a voucher booklet that entitles you to taste wines from the participating estates. Each cellar offers its own selection, for a total of up to 36 different wines. The ticket is valid for both days, allowing you to spread your visits leisurely between Saturday and Sunday.

Wine buses and cellars

To travel between cellars without a care, the organizers provide a free shuttle bus service organized into several color-coded lines, connecting the various winery circuits, in addition to a convenient walking route within the village. Among the establishments enlivening the event are historic cellars of the Consortium such as Enzo Carmignani, Fattoria del Testo, Fattoria La Torre, Fattoria Valdrighi, Tenuta del Buonamico, Podere Sgretoli, and Fattoria di Badia Pozzeveri, all guardians of the Montecarlo winemaking tradition.

A territory to discover

Montecarlo has been a land of wine since the Middle Ages, and its DOC encompasses whites and reds born from the encounter between native Tuscan grape varieties and French varieties introduced as early as the 19th century. Visiting Via Vinaria means combining the pleasure of a glass of wine with the discovery of a walled village offering spectacular views over the Lucca plain, historic alleys, glimpses of the hills, and the warm hospitality of the producers. An event designed for enthusiasts, the curious, and families alike, where oenology becomes a true territorial experience.

Via Vinaria — edition 2026

The 15th edition of Via Vinaria took place in Montecarlo on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2026, confirming the traditional wine trail through the cellars of the Montecarlo Wine Consortium. With the tasting kit, including a collector's glass, visitors were able to sample up to 36 DOC wines while traveling between the estates on free wine buses.

The 2026 edition of Via Vinaria reprised the format that made the event famous: two days dedicated to discovering the wines of Montecarlo through a widespread itinerary among the Consortium's cellars. The tasting kit, priced at 20 euros (15 euros for AIS and FISAR members), included the screen-printed glass, the glass holder, the official gadget, and the booklet to taste up to 36 wines, with up to 3 per estate. Free shuttle buses, organized on several color-coded lines, connected the winery circuits, from the Orange Line to the Green one, in addition to the walking route in the village.
