The streets of Dergano become a shared public space, with workshops, music, and a big neighbourhood dinner.
Via Dolce Via is the festival of Dergano, a neighbourhood in Municipality 9 of Milan, and one of the most successful examples of reclaiming public space in the city. The idea is simple and radical: close the neighbourhood streets — Guerzoni, Davanzati, and Ciaia — to traffic and give them back to the residents, transforming them for a day into a large shared space for meeting and creativity.
From afternoon to evening, the neighbourhood comes alive with a rich programme: creative workshops and activities for children organised by local associations, musical performances by bands and choirs, DJ sets, performances, and dance. A widespread vernissage brings works of art to the neighbourhood's planters, while wellness activities such as fitness, meditation, and urban gardening complete the offering.
The most symbolic moment is the communal outdoor dinner in via Ciaia: shared tables where neighbourhood residents gather to eat together, in a collective gesture that embodies the spirit of the festival. There is also a swap market for clothes and items, promoting sustainability and reducing waste.
Organised by citizens and local organisations, Via Dolce Via is an entirely free and participatory festival. It involves associations, schools, artists, and cultural spaces in Dergano, creating a grassroots event model that showcases Milan's neighbourhoods, rediscovering local culture and the value of togetherness in Municipality 9.
The 2026 edition of Via Dolce Via, the thirteenth, enlivens the Dergano neighbourhood on Saturday, June 6, from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The neighbourhood streets become shared public space, where associations, schools, artists, and citizens bring their activities and projects.
The programme combines workshops for children, music, performances, and dance, culminating in the communal outdoor dinner at 7:00 PM in via Ciaia, with shared tables. There is also a widespread vernissage on the neighbourhood's planters, a swap market, and wellness activities.
