The widespread summer of the Martesana Amphitheatre

The NaMa Summer Festival is the major summer event that animates the Martesana Amphitheatre, in the Parco Martiri della Libertà Iracheni Vittime del Terrorismo, along the Martesana Canal in Milan. For a whole month, from mid-June to mid-July, the space transforms into a widespread and free festival encompassing music, cinema, theatre, culture, and wellness, in the heart of Municipality 2, between the Gorla, Turro, and Crescenzago neighbourhoods.

From summer arena to widespread festival

What was once a summer arena has grown into a truly widespread festival, capable of involving multiple areas of the park with different languages and content. The festival is divided into thematic areas: the main amphitheatre for central performances, the green area dedicated to cinema, talks, debates, sport, and wellness, the workshop and laboratory area open to all ages, the NAMA indoor space for evening events, and the Hidden Garden, with cultural experiences and local activities.

A festival born from the ground up

The strength of NaMa lies in its community roots. Organised by the association NAMA — Nuovo Anfiteatro Martesana with the contribution of Municipality 2 of the City of Milan, the festival was supported by a civic crowdfunding campaign that gathered the support of hundreds of donors. A participatory model that makes this space a cultural and social hub for the north-eastern part of the city.

Culture accessible to all

The NaMa programme is completely free and designed for a wide audience: concerts, open-air film screenings, theatre performances, shows, exhibitions, talks, and sports activities follow one another throughout the duration of the event. An offering that makes accessibility and participation its distinctive feature.
