Vertical Egua in Carcoforo

Vertical Egua is a mountain running time trial held in Carcoforo, one of the smallest and most picturesque villages in the Valsesia valley, located in the province of Vercelli in the heart of upper Piedmont. Established in 2024, the event is organized by the Sci Club Carcoforo in collaboration with Rifugio Boffalora and has quickly become a highly anticipated date for skyrunning enthusiasts and mountain lovers.

The Course

The competitive race kicks off from the center of Carcoforo, tackling a demanding 4.5-kilometer route with a 960-meter elevation gain, reaching the Volpone-Sesone Bivouac at the foot of Colle Egua (over 2,200 meters above sea level). It is a steep, technical course, perfect for those who love challenging climbs and high-mountain vistas over the Val d'Egua.

The Non-Competitive Hike

Alongside the time trial, there is a non-competitive hike to Rifugio Boffalora, designed for those who want to enjoy the day at a more relaxed pace, immersed in the valley's nature without the pressure of the clock. It is the perfect opportunity for families and hikers who wish to reach the mountain hut at their own leisure.

A Day at the Mountain Hut

At the end of the activities, Rifugio Boffalora welcomes athletes and hikers for lunch and the awards ceremony, a convivial moment that is an integral part of the event's spirit. The race is held in memory of F. Volpone, S. Lana, and L. Gianella.

Carcoforo and the Val d'Egua

Nestled at the end of the Val d'Egua, at the foot of Monte Tagliaferro, Carcoforo is a small mountain village that has preserved its Walser identity and pristine natural heritage. Vertical Egua is one of the many events that bring the village to life during the summer, highlighting its outdoor vocation through hiking, high-altitude sports, and Alpine traditions.
