About Musica in Quota — Alpe Loccia

In the heart of Valle Strona, at Alpe Loccia above the village of Loreglia, the traveling festival Musica in Quota brings world-class live music to an altitude of over 1,000 meters. On September 13, 2026, after an easy hike, the audience will reach the alpine meadows to enjoy the Sun4tet saxophone quartet, with views stretching across Lake Orta. A free event as part of the 20th-anniversary season, where the mountains of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region become a natural stage.

A concert over 1,000 meters above Lake Orta

Among the most evocative events of the Musica in Quota festival is the concert at Alpe Loccia, a wide pasture basin at approximately 1,100 meters in the municipality of Loreglia, in Valle Strona, within the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont. Here, on September 13, 2026, live music meets the alpine landscape: after an easy climb on foot, hikers will gather on the alpine meadows, where the view sweeps out to the waters of Lake Orta and the surrounding villages.

Sun4tet: an unconventional journey for saxophones

The star of this edition is Sun4tet, a saxophone collective that takes the audience on an unconventional musical journey. The quartet blends the timbres of different saxophones in a surprising repertoire, designed to be heard outdoors, immersed in the silence of the mountains and the colors of late summer. The concert, like all festival events, begins at 11:30 AM.

The hike to Alpe Loccia

To reach the alp, you follow a trail starting from the hamlet of Chesio, an ancient settlement of Loreglia steeped in the traditional architecture of Valle Strona. The route is classified as E (Hiking) difficulty according to the CAI scale and must be tackled independently. Along the path and upon arrival, guides will be present to explain the area's unique features, including mining history, mountain oratories, and panoramas of the Cusio area.

  • Location: Alpe Loccia, Chesio hamlet, Loreglia (VB)
  • Date: September 13, 2026, 11:30 AM
  • Artist: Sun4tet (saxophone quartet)
  • Trail difficulty: Grade E (CAI scale)
  • Admission: Free

The 20th-anniversary festival

In 2026, Musica in Quota celebrates its twentieth year: a season of free concerts that, from June to September, brings life to the pastures, lakes, and sanctuaries of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Biella areas. Organized by the Musica in Quota Association, the festival combines hiking and live music, transforming the Piedmontese Alps into natural stages and inviting the public to rediscover the trails and villages of the alpine valleys.

Loreglia and Valle Strona

The municipality of Loreglia preserves the identity of the mountain communities of the Cusio area: once dedicated to livestock farming and the trade of butter toward Omegna, it is now a small village that guards trails, oratories, and a history linked to iron mines. Alpe Loccia, described as a large expanse of gentle ridges overlooking Lake Orta, represents one of its most scenic spots and the ideal stage for this autumn concert.
