The agricultural and livestock fair of the Vergante region, celebrating cattle, local cheeses, and village traditions
The Vergantina Red Pied Cattle Fair is one of the most deep-rooted events in the Vergante, the hilly area stretching between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. It takes place in the village of Graglia Piana, in the municipality of Brovello-Carpugnino, drawing farmers, exhibitors, and visitors every year for a day entirely dedicated to the region's farming roots.
Created to showcase the traditional agricultural activities and local livestock of the two-lake basin, the fair focuses on the Red Pied cattle breed, while also featuring herd animals, goats, sheep, and horses. It is an opportunity for breeders to showcase their livestock and for visitors to rediscover a rural world that is still very much alive.
The heart of the event is the livestock exhibition in the festival area: Red Pied cattle, herd animals, and horses can be admired up close while breeders share insights into their work. Alongside the animals, a large market offers local food products, gastronomic excellence from the Vergante, handicrafts, saddlery, and clothing at numerous stalls.
The Vergantina Fair is organized by the Pro Loco Vergantino of Brovello-Carpugnino in collaboration with the Alpini Group and with the patronage of the Municipality. More than just a livestock fair, it is a community moment that unites agriculture, craftsmanship, and gastronomy, telling the story of a corner of Piedmont suspended between the mountains and the lakes.
For its 30th edition, the Vergantina Fair confirmed itself as one of the most anticipated events of the Vergante spring. The day began at 10:00 AM with the inauguration and the opening of the exhibitions; at 11:00 AM, the educational event "Learning to make cheese" took place, offering a practical demonstration of the cheesemaking craft. Throughout the event, breeders showcased their Red Pied cattle, herd animals, and horses, while numerous stalls offered local products and Vergante handicrafts. A well-stocked kitchen with home-style specialties accompanied the visitors. The edition, organized by the Pro Loco Vergantino with the Alpini Group and the patronage of the Municipality, recorded a great success in terms of public, breeders, and livestock.
In case of bad weather, an alternative date was planned for the following days.
